We recently had the chance to connect with Zuri Jefferson and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Zuri , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Working out is my #1 outlet outside of work.
I found a love for fitness and nutrition a few years back and the rest is history. It’s my me time, my therapy that helps me to release & decompress after hours of energy exchanges with clients.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Zuri and I am the creator and owner of Studio Maven Hair
A boutique style salon specializing in blondes and lived-in hair color
The word Maven means a person with understanding & experience, knowledgeable in a subject, a teacher.. and when it comes to my 10 years of experience with all different textures of hair, that’s not just what I am, it’s who I am.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Helping to care for my sick father who later passed in 2019
I watched my dad go from being in the military for over 20 years fully providing for my family to needing 24 hour care at the age of 64.
Those years taught me that life is short & can be so unfair. It is important to live every day with intention and block out any and all noise. The little things that upset you, small inconveniences, drama.. they don’t and never will matter. The focus should be to love those who love you and never stop perusing the things in life that truly make you happy.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It taught me discipline. How pushing through hard times and not succumbing to challenges builds character and resilience to never give up.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would say my daughter, my business and my family are what truly matter the most to me. They are the core to my existence!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’m at the beach. It completely calms my nervous system where I’m able to fully relax my mind and breathe a little slower
