We’re looking forward to introducing you to Yadi Sixx. Check out our conversation below.
Yadi, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I have two types of normal days. One type is a Miley Cyrus day. The other is a Hannah Montana day.
When it comes to my Miley days. I wake up do my job (I’m a tech-support specialist). After work, I’m either writing a song or working on something that has to do with my music career or building wealth. For example, writing music video treatments, figuring out marketing plans, researching the industry, researching music and staying true to being a student of the game.
When it comes to my Hannah Montana days… I am usually running around like a chicken with my head cut off, trying to utilize my resources to get the best outcome out of whatever I’m attempting to do that day. This could look like glam, shooting videos, performing, hosting, interviews, etc!!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Yadi Sixx. Cult Leader. I’m an alternative artist from Baltimore, Maryland and I’m here to disrupt the music industry as it stands currently, and to do my best to uplift my community with my platform. My brand is pretty much Queen of the Damned, but in real life. Beautiful, powerful, dark, chaotic. These are all words that come to mind when you think of the Yadi Sixx brand. I have been working on building this empire since I was about 10 years old. It’s very special to me because I did it with no connections and minimal resources. Just a dream, pure will, and hard work. I think it’s very special that a former foster child.. a black one.. a girl, could grow up and beat all the statistics. Not only beat them, but knock them out of the park. I don’t even know what a statistic is. I create my own boundaries!!! I want to continue to grow my platform, not only for my love of music, but for my love of people that are like me. I want to be a voice for those who do not have one. I want to become somewhat of a teacher. Teaching the people on this planet that you can turn your pain into something so beautiful. You two can become an alchemist. Healing this world, one cryptic song at a time.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was who I am right now before the world told me who I was supposed to be. I’ve been singing ever since I drew my first breath. There was a Whitney Houston song playing when I popped out, and they said that I let out the longest note and right then they knew I’d be a singer. I was always a quirky, weird kid that never really fit in. I just wanted love and acceptance and my home life was never really that good, so I kind of went out of my way to make myself likable. I watered myself down, made myself small, digestible. And I’m literally just now getting to a point where I’m breaking through that. I remembered who I was in a sense of my aesthetic and the music that I liked. But I lost the part of me that knew I was a superstar for a long time. I was lucky enough to get it back before watching my whole life pass me by. So I’m still working on that.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Probably the fear of failure. And it’s so funny with that because that fear has also been what pushed me in my life. Sometimes I have held myself back or missed opportunities because of the fear of failure. Whether it was that I was scared to look stupid or scared that people wouldn’t like what I was creating or putting out. I was allowing the fear of failing stop me from being me. Once I gave myself permission to not be perfect and to grow as an artist in front of the world regardless of haters opinions, things changed drastically for me.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think one of the biggest lies that is being told to the people who are pursuing the music industry right now is that talent matters? In 2025, talent doesn’t matter in the music industry. Money, clout, and connections mean far more than your ability to create these days. I think that a lot of of these “artists” are doing it just because it looks cool or because it’s a new wave and popular to be an artist now. Being an independent artist is literally setting your life on expert difficulty. We see people getting traction from viral moments and thinking that this will sustain an entire career. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. People are no longer students of the game that includes the workings of the industry as well as the actual music. If you wanna make it in this industry, you have to move seriously and treat it like a business.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Yes, I’m literally doing what I was born to do. There were many times in my life that I questioned if I wasted my life chasing this and every single time I was shown that it’s for a reason. When I was young and we would have them ask questions like what do you guys wanna be when you grow up and things like that I would say a singer and I was serious. The teachers would either ask me to choose something else or to stop playing around… whatever. I never double backed. I meant what I said. Fast forward here we are, I’m in my 20’s and I’m actually making it happen! You should see the look on some of the people‘s faces from back in my school days. It’s really funny when they see that I’m actually doing it haha.
