We recently had the chance to connect with Watersdeep and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Watersdeep, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now, my days mostly consist of writing lyrics, practicing, tracking vocals, content creation, show booking, and promoting our newest singles.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We’re Watersdeep from Washington DC/Maryland. We love to blend our influences of 2000’s emo and modern metalcore to create a sound that we believe is unique to us. Our message has always been about mental health awareness and building a community of like minded people that love cool music.
We put out three singles earlier this year, and have more on the way! We’re very excited to share what we’ve been working on with everybody.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I (Gabe) remember when I was a kid and I first picked up piano. It was my first time playing a musical instrument, and while it was a challenge at first, I quickly started to get the hang of it. From a young age, I realized how powerful music was and how therapeutic it was for me.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Truthfully, there have been a couple times where Watersdeep almost broke up over the years. The pressure of being in an up and coming band has definitely gotten to us in the past, but thankfully, we’ve overcome those obstacles every time, and are still going strong seven years later.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
Totally off topic but aliens. I can’t prove it but they’re real.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Honestly, yeah. Growing up, I always wanted to be in a band and play music, even if it was at the smallest level. I told myself I’d be happy even if I only ever played open mic nights for the rest of my life. The older I’ve gotten and the more shows I’ve played, the more I realized that I want more for myself and my music career. Teenage Gabe would LOVE what I’m doing. But adult Gabe thinks he can do better.
