Story & Lesson Highlights with Thaartist Kali of Seattle

We recently had the chance to connect with Thaartist Kali and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Thaartist, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Who are you learning from right now?
I’m having an opportunity to learn from some legendary hip hop stars ECP, whose members include Kid Sensation, Maharaji & Attitude Adjusta, the hip hop group that is directly connected to the legendary Sir Mix-a-lot & DJ Nasty Nes (May he rest in peace).
As of July 12th 2025, A good friend of mine that’s connected through DJ Nasty Nes management JJ Hudson partnered with me and we are currently on tour with ECP. This tour is teaching me a great deal. Time efficient and learning to play my role is key. Every great leader was once a great follower. I know that to be more true now than before.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Thaartist Kali — I’m a recording artist, actor, and creative force who uses music and storytelling to express raw emotion, real experiences, and cultural depth. My journey is about more than just making noise — it’s about building a legacy through honest expression and powerful visuals that resonate.

As an artist, I represent the voices often left in the background — the misunderstood, the evolving, the visionary. I’ve partnered with distribution platforms like GT Digital and EMPIRE Distribution to bring my music to the world through a larger platform, but what sets my brand apart is the way I approach each project. Every track, cover, or performance is intentional — cinematic, immersive, and rooted in something deeper than just entertainment.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding my creative universe — developing new music, visual projects, and collaborations that reflect who I am and where I’m going. I want people to feel something when they experience my work. This isn’t just a brand — it’s a movement that blends art, truth, and ambition.

Currently my biggest song release is 100 men vs a Gorilla. Shooting the visuals for it now. It’s going to be cinematic.

Stay tuned — because I’m just getting started.

If I had to pick one person who saw me and saw my true potential was Imam Rashad Hassan. He taught me a lot about life and how to be not just good and work to be the best. Master of self and master of my craft.
I learned then that I would never put myself into something that I was going to follow through with completely.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
It’s a tough and very competitive industry to get into so of course there were moments I felt like giving up.
It takes finding that inner strength and pulling it out of you. Ice Cube said there’s going to be a lot of uncomfortable moments that you’re not going to like doing but it needs to be done. A lot of late nights and a lot of money goes into building a brand. No one ever said it was going to be easy.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I mean I’m always me. No doubt about it Thaartist Kali and I are separate entities in that when I’m at home, I’m the me that can put on sweats and sandals & won’t care if the beds made. lol When I’m out though I’m dressed up and I always make my bed before I leave the house. Someone told me once “I always make my bed! So that way if I have a bad day at work at least I can go home to a clean tight bed to lay in.” That sat with me. I never leave my house a mess or my bed unmade when I leave.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I think the biggest regret a person can have is not telling the people you care about the most that you love em. Today feels different. Do people still wear their hearts on their sleeve? How about just caring for people and showing more empathy.
