Story & Lesson Highlights with Shareeda Bennett of Laurel

We recently had the chance to connect with Shareeda Bennett and have shared our conversation below.

Shareeda, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Absolutely. Here’s why:
1. I bring results, not just routines. Whether it’s flawless glam or glowing skin, I tailor every service to actually work for the individual — not just follow trends.
2. Clean, safe, and professional is my baseline. Sanitation isn’t optional, and neither is professionalism. My space, tools, and energy are clean — every single time.
3. I care about the client experience. It’s not just a service — it’s a vibe. I want my clients to feel confident, heard, and hyped up when they leave my chair.
4. I stay learning. Techniques evolve. Products change. Skin needs shift. I invest in continued education because staying stuck isn’t an option.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Shareeda — a licensed esthetician, makeup artist, and body waxer dedicated to helping people look and feel their best in their own skin.

My brand is built on intentional beauty — combining expert skincare, flawless makeup, and smooth, confident results through professional body waxing. I don’t just offer services — I create personalized experiences that make you feel empowered, educated, and cared for.

What makes me different? I focus on real results and real confidence — from glowing skin and sculpted brows to soft glam and silky-smooth waxing sessions. Whether you’re getting ready for a special event or just showing up for yourself, I’m here to be your trusted beauty expert, hype woman, and ski

Without a doubt — my mother.

Growing up, I watched her work multiple jobs just to make ends meet. She was tired, stretched thin, and had every reason to slow down — but she never did. She showed up, gave 100%, and carried herself with strength, grace, and pride.

Her example taught me what real work ethic looks like: not just grinding, but showing up as your best self, even when life is heavy. That’s the energy I bring to my craft today — whether I’m behind the chair or behind the scenes, I lead with dedication, resilience, and heart.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“You have no idea how strong you really are.”

The tenacity, the drive, the way you keep pushing even when things feel impossible — it’s already in you. Your strength is impeccable. One day, you’ll look back and realize that every struggle built the foundation for the powerhouse you’re becoming. Keep going. You’re not just surviving — you’re growing into someone unstoppable.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
It’s just as much about who knows you and the relationships you build.

You can have all the talent, certifications, and skills — but if you’re not connected, seen, or supported by the right people, it can feel like you’re invisible. Relationships open doors that knowledge alone sometimes can’t.

That’s why I value community just as much as craft. Because success in this industry isn’t just about being good — it’s about being remembered.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m in my zone — hands moving, music low, client relaxed, and I’m fully present in the moment.

There’s something grounding about that quiet confidence that comes when I’m doing what I love — whether I’m creating a flawless makeup look, helping someone feel confident in their skin, or giving them that smooth, clean wax that makes them walk out like a brand new version of themselves.

It’s in those moments — when someone feels seen, cared for, and more themselves — that I feel most at peace. Like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
