Story & Lesson Highlights with Orlett Torrence of Rosedale

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Orlett Torrence. Check out our conversation below.

Orlett, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
Over the years, I’ve learned that people truly want to be heard. Active listening during appointments is just as critical to the longevity of a business as achieving great physical outcomes. Many of my clients have felt misunderstood or ignored in the past, which often leads to noncompliance and a lack of trust in providers. Taking the time to listen and collaborate with clients to reach their desired outcomes is essential to building lasting relationships and trust.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Orlett H. Torrence, a board-certified nurse practitioner with a passion for helping people look and feel their best from the inside out. At Baltimore Aesthetics we blend aesthetic medicine, wellness, and evidence-based care to create personalized treatment plans that enhance confidence and natural beauty.

What makes my approach unique is the emphasis I place on education, collaboration, and listening. I believe that great results come from understanding each client’s goals, lifestyle, and story not just their skin concerns.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding my services in noninvasive aesthetic treatments, weight management, and skin health, while continuing to create a welcoming space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered in their self-care journey.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe that my career path had to be linear—choose one thing, do it for decades, then retire and finally enjoy life. Over time, I’ve learned that my interests and needs are constantly evolving. Embracing a variety of career experiences has allowed me to explore the many possibilities that being a registered nurse and nurse practitioner can offer. The decision I made at 17 to become a nurse has been incredibly fulfilling, and the flexibility of this profession has allowed me to grow, reinvent myself, and find purpose in every chapter of my journey.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
After having my second child, I reached a point where my desire to continue my career in aesthetics began to fade. I wanted to be fully present with my baby and family, but I also knew that stepping back from work could affect my clientele and momentum. Choosing my family was not a difficult decision, but it’s one I’m still finding balance with today. There are moments when I wonder how things might have been different had I made another choice, but I have no regrets about prioritizing time with my children. This season has taught me that success can be redefined and that it’s okay for our pace and priorities to shift.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is very much the real me. What you see is someone who values authenticity, empathy, and connection. I don’t believe in putting on a persona, especially in a field that’s so personal and built on trust. Of course, I share the more polished side of myself professionally, but the foundation is always genuine. My clients and colleagues know that who I am in the treatment room is the same person I am outside of it.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had only ten years left, I would stop second-guessing myself. I would move with less fear and more intention, trusting my instincts fully. I would focus my energy on the goals I’ve been putting off and live with a greater sense of urgency and purpose.
