We’re looking forward to introducing you to Nickia Counts. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Nickia, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
First 90mins of my day looks like getting up early. Stretching, praying, prepping lunch and making coffee for the day. It sets the tone for the day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
To start, my name is Nickia Counts, and I am the owner/operator of Beaded Babes by Nicki. Where I sew and make handmade hair accessories. Using various textures for a personalized touch. Hair accessories to protect and retain moisture. Such as satin bonnets, scrunchies, hair bows, floral & resin hair clips. It’s a great way to beautify your daily looks. Right now, I’m working on expanding my brand to reach various customers and give a luxurious experience when it comes to hair. It’s my passion to make quality products.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
It was a combination of things. Learning basic skills from my mom at a young age. Learning in-home economics in high school, and of course, YouTube during the pandemic. That’s where I learned the most and how to explore with different textures, needle sizes, and various sewing machines. Once you start to learn more and create more ideas come to light. The ideas and inspirations are limitless.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Continue to explore your creative side. It’s what makes you unique. You never know where it may take you! Life is a struggle at times, but there are ways to manage and have a great outlet
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes to a certain extent. When doing pop up markets I have to be more social. I’m usually a quiet person but enjoy talking to others.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m sewing on a quiet day. In front of a sunny window and possibly listen to music to set the mood.
