Latoya L. Frazier shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Latoya L., a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I believe that many are silently battling depression and apathy, stifled by fear, fatigue and resignation. As we look across our families, communities and the broader society, we witness a quiet retreat -a disengagement from life, a detachment from emotion. Apathy has settled in like a fog: numbing, invisible, yet deeply present. There is little movement, little feeling, and even less visible change.
Psychologically, these conditions often arise from burnout. But, I sense something deeper, an erosion of hope, a growing belief that one’s actions no longer matter. We are fading inward, losing connection not only to ourselves, but to one another. In this void, many seek validation at any cost, even if it means compromising their integrity, their values, their moral compass. The hunger to feel seen has become so intense that attention itself is mistaken for worth.
This is not merely a personal crisis – it is a collective one. Too many are giving up, surrendering to despair. The fight within us, once fierce and unyielding, now flickers faintly. We hesitate to speak when we witness injustice. We remain silent when our voices could spark change. Fear has replaced courage, and silence has become our default.
This silence must be broken. The fight must be rekindled. The healing must begin, not just for the individual, but for the soul of the people.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my firstborn daughter became a mirror—reflecting not only who I was, but who I needed to become. In her eyes, I saw both innocence and responsibility, and it was in that sacred bond that I recognized the urgent work I had to do within myself. She depended on me for nourishment, for warmth, for safety—and I vowed to meet those needs with unwavering devotion.
As a single teen mother, the path was not easy. But my love for her became my compass. I pressed forward, determined to secure my high school diploma, earn my bachelor’s degree, and build a life that could sustain us both.
Every step I took was not just for my own growth—it was a declaration. A testament that my children would witness the strength, sacrifice, and significance of their mother’s journey. Not only in my life, but in theirs.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You’ve shown remarkable strength. You’ve taught others what it means to rise from an environment designed to break you. You fought back, refused to give up, and carried resilience like a torch through the darkness. Your journey is proof that even in the face of adversity, you can still inspire, endure, and overcome. Even if you lost everything today, you still overcame. No one can ever take away your progress.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The cultural values I hold sacred and defend without compromise are rooted in my unwavering faith in God; shaped by the principles of Christianity, Holiness, and Pentecostal tradition. I stand firm in my belief in moral clarity—knowing right from wrong—and I cherish the power of identity and unity, both within myself and within my community. These values are not merely part of my heritage; they are the foundation of how I live, lead, and love.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Without question, I’ve always been willing to give my all—whether or not recognition follows. I believe that the true measure of service lies not in applause or accolades, but in the quiet impact it leaves behind. Whatever you do in life—for others, for your community—do it with purpose, not for praise. Because when your intention is to make a difference, the reward is already built into the act itself.
I value the power of knowing your worth and standing firm in that truth, while also honoring the strength that comes from community and connection. These principles guide how I serve, how I lead, and how I continue to grow. They are the compass that keeps me aligned with the life I’m called to live.
