Story & Lesson Highlights with Jonvoana “Life Coach Von” Evans

Jonvoana “Life Coach Von” Evans shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Jonvoana “Life Coach Von”, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Who are you learning from right now?
Right now, I’m learning from AI.

I’ve always been a forever techy at heart, with a professional background rooted in technology, so it feels natural that I’d be curious about what AI could teach me. But it’s more than just code or algorithms. AI is teaching me how important it is to think differently, adapt quickly, and recognize how creativity can be sparked in unexpected ways.

As I build an AI-powered platform that’s the first of its kind in the coaching space, I’ve come to realize that AI isn’t replacing the human touch, it’s enhancing it. I’m learning from it and leveraging it as a tool to help coaches practice real conversations, build their confidence, and sharpen their listening skills in ways that traditional training often leaves out.

And here’s the surprising part: the more I lean into AI, the more it challenges me to be human. To slow down. To listen more deeply. To remember that at the end of all this innovation, the real transformation still happens heart to heart.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jonvoana “Life Coach Von” Evans, a coach, author, global speaker, and forever techy at heart. Over the years, I’ve been honored to speak on stages such as Oxford University’s World Literacy Summit, the NAACP Regional Conference, and the Congressional Black Caucus. For over two decades, I’ve been passionate about helping people transform their lives by first learning to love themselves, and more recently, by equipping other coaches to do the same.

What makes my journey unique is the blend of heart and innovation. Alongside my certifications in Neuroscience Coaching with a focus on Entrepreneurship and Education, and ongoing studies in Health and Wellness Coaching, I’ve built the FLY Life Coaching Ecosystem to create spaces for women and coaches to grow personally and professionally. That passion for transformation eventually led me to ask: How can we give coaches a safe, realistic place to practice before they’re sitting in front of a real client?

That question birthed coAchIng 3.0, an AI-powered coaching skills development platform that’s the first of its kind. It gives coaches the ability to step into real-world scenarios, sharpen their listening, and build the confidence they need to thrive. My story is really about bridging two worlds: the human side of coaching and the innovation of technology, all in service of making sure more people have access to impactful, well-equipped coaches.

Right now, I’m excited to be scaling coAchIng 3.0 so it can reach coaches globally because when coaches rise with confidence, the ripple effect touches families, communities, and entire industries.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
It would be easy for me to say “trust” or “communication” — and those are true. But what really breaks bonds, and sometimes even holds the power to mend them, are expectations: the unshared, the unagreed upon, the unmet, and the unrealistic.

Too often we (yes, we — I’ve been guilty a time or four myself, though I’m always striving to grow) let our warped sense of reality convince us that people should just know what we want. Or we assume they’ll treat us the way we would treat them. We expect them to be there, to call, to give, to say thank you, or even to handle the hard things with ease. Those seem like basic courtesies, even foundational relationship skills, right? Wrong.

This is where empathy comes in. And I won’t pretend it’s easy, especially when someone is chronically disappointing us. But empathy shifts the lens. Because the truth is, people will always fall short, but grace gives us another lens to start seeing them the way God sees us. It allows us to stop measuring people by what we think they owe us. That shift doesn’t just restore bonds, it transforms them.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain when I realized that as long as it stayed hidden, it couldn’t be healed.

There are three areas that stand out for me: a failed marriage, my rollercoaster transition from a six-figure “dream job,” and my corrupted physical health. I actually share this in my book, While I Was Waiting on God, He Was Waiting on Me: A Real-World Guide to Patience, Purpose, and Personal Growth.

When I became transparent about the role I played in my failed marriage and a newly single mother of three beautiful daughters, it wasn’t just healing, it opened the door for God to send me my best part, my husband, Dr. Robert L. Evans III, and three bonus children. When I stopped hiding the truth about being unfulfilled in my career, I was led back to my first love — life coaching — even before I knew it was a thing. That honesty also began attracting my ideal clients to me. And when I no longer hid the silent suffering of an abnormal menstrual cycle, I was finally able to show up healthy and present for the people I love and the work I’m called to do.

The thread through it all is this: before the transformation from pain to power, I had to tell myself — before you can become anything, you must first… be.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m deeply committed to helping coaches become both impact- and income-producing, no matter how long it takes. For me, that’s the quickest way to extend the ripple effect I want to personally have in the world.

I know I’m not the ideal coach for everyone, and everyone isn’t my ideal client, and that’s okay. My mission is bigger than that. It’s to help as many coaches as possible gain the confidence to show up fully in every conversation, and to connect deeply with the clients who are meant for them.

That’s why I’ve poured my energy into building coAchIng 3.0, the first AI-powered coaching skills platform of its kind. Because when coaches are confident and equipped, the impact doesn’t just stop with them, it multiplies through every client, every family, and every community they touch.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I laid down my name, my role, and every possession, what would remain is an ambitious, bold, confident, determined, excellent, FLY (First Loving Yourself), God-fearing woman. Yes, I’ll admit it, I’ve got a whole alphabet of letters that describe who I am at my core, lol.

One of the biggest realizations I had during my transition from a thriving 20+ year IT career is the same truth I now share with the individuals I coach: what you do is not who you are — but who you are makes you great at what you do. Titles, roles, and possessions can give us a false sense of identity. But when you reverse-engineer them, you discover the qualities that sit at the core.

Here’s one of my free FLY coaching tips: take a look at each of your titles or roles and ask yourself, what makes me good at it? What makes me a good mother, doctor, wife, CEO? When you start answering those questions, you’ll uncover the essence of what makes you great. And the beauty of that discovery is this: even if the title is taken away, the greatness still remains, because at the deepest level, my identity is rooted in God, not in titles.
