Story & Lesson Highlights with Heather Tydings of Frederick, Maryland

Heather Tydings shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Heather, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. When was the last time you felt true joy?
Oh how I love this question. I am always looking for glimmers; especially when life is challenging. Glimmers” are those fleeting, feel-good sparks; the tiny moments when your nervous system exhales and you actually feel safe, connected, and alive. They remind our body it’s okay to soften, to regulate, to thrive instead of just get through the day.

Recently, my husband & I pulled out our “weekend convertible” to go on an adventure to an apple orchard in the mountains of West Virginia. It was late afternoon & the sun was going down as we arrived. The joy started when I was let loose to pick a large bouquet of dahlias, cone flowers, zinnias & sunflowers in a field buzzing with bumble bees & butterflies. We ventured into the orchard as sun set, picking a variety of delectable apples in all shapes, sizes & colors. The orchard was set against the lush Appalachian mountains; resembling places we have visited in Europe. The way the light hit the trees, the flowers & my heart has continued to light me up.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Welcome! I’m Heather at Own Your Evolution. I provide holistic psychotherapy & life coaching + weave in principles of Ayurveda. I work with women & teen girls who are going through periods of reinvention, transition who are craving an authentic life. They often report feeling unsettled and anxious, yet desire peace & are willing to go on a truth seeking mission to find it. Many are highly sensitive humans who are ready to create their own narrative in order to live potently & vibrantly. My approach connects people with their power using positive psychology, EMDR, EFT, BrainSpotting, Internal Family Systems as well as mindfulness practices.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was an effervescent little lassie with a microphone singing confidently on a church stage “I’m something special- I’m the only one of my kind. God gave me a body and a bright healthy mind.” I sang with zero self consciousness & a bone deep knowing that I was OK simply because I existed.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are going to go through many difficult times, but you get to see the bright beautiful world & it will expand you & your thinking in ways you cannot imagine. You will find your voice & have no fear of using it. You shed old ways of being & identities given to you by others & shine unabashedly from your soul. You will use all this to teach, uplift & inspire others.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Without a doubt, they’d say that harmonious, reciprocal relationships that have depth & trust are what I cherish the most in life. International travel, high quality food & fine wine (in no particular order) would be a close second.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
Oddly, I feel the most peaceful when I’m traveling & feasting on the world. Learning about new cultures & ways of thinking/being lights me up. I love seeing new landscapes, seeing art, learning the history, eating local cuisine & connecting with people.
