Story & Lesson Highlights with Gabriella Symone Parker

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gabriella Symone Parker. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Gabriella, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Every time I see a delegate step into her power, I feel proud beyond words—because our motto, ‘Size Has No Barrier on Beauty,’ is coming alive right in front of me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Gabriella Symone Parker, and I am the Director of the Ms. Full-Figured USA – National Capital Region Pageant. I first stepped onto this stage as a contestant, and now I have the honor of producing an entire pageant experience for women who deserve to be celebrated in their fullness. What makes this organization so special is its legacy — Ms. Full-Figured USA has been empowering women for over three decades — but also its heart. We remind women that ‘Size Has No Barrier on Beauty’ is more than a motto; it’s a movement.

Through the NCR division, I’ve built a platform that goes beyond gowns and crowns. We host workshops, community service events, and sisterhood gatherings that pour into women as leaders, mothers, entrepreneurs, and role models. What excites me most right now is creating a weekend experience that feels like both a celebration and a transformation — from the pajama party welcome to the finale at Martin’s West, every detail is about reminding women that they are enough, exactly as they are.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was the first time I stepped on stage as a young girl and realized people were really listening to me. I wasn’t the smallest in the room, and I wasn’t trying to shrink myself to fit in — yet there I was, commanding attention just by being fully present. That moment planted a seed in me that power isn’t about being perfect, it’s about owning your voice and your presence. It’s the same lesson I try to pass on to our delegates now: your power comes alive the second you decide you are enough.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a season when I almost walked away from this dream. The weight of responsibility, the endless logistics, and the quiet moments of doubt made me wonder if I was really the one to carry it all. But every time I thought about giving up, I remembered why I started — to create a space where women who look like me, who have been told they are ‘too much’ or ‘not enough,’ could stand tall and be celebrated. That reminder pulled me through. I realized that if I gave up, I wouldn’t just be letting myself down — I’d be closing a door for every woman waiting to step into her power.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies our industry tells itself is that beauty only looks one way — a certain size, a certain shape, a certain standard. Another lie is that women have to compete by tearing each other down, when in truth the most powerful thing we can do is build each other up. In plus-size pageantry, we are rewriting those narratives. We prove that confidence, talent, and presence have no size limit, and that sisterhood is stronger than comparison. The stage is not about fitting in — it’s about standing out as your truest self.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will say that I created spaces where women felt seen, celebrated, and free to be themselves. That I used my voice and my platform not just to showcase beauty, but to shift what beauty means. I want my story to be one of legacy — that because of the work I poured into Ms. Full-Figured USA National Capital Region and beyond, women stood taller, loved themselves harder, and believed that ‘Size Has No Barrier on Beauty’ wasn’t just a motto, but a truth they could live by. More than crowns and titles, I want to be remembered for the way I made people feel.
