Story & Lesson Highlights with Danecha’ McKisset of Baltimore County (Rosedale)

Danecha’ McKisset shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Danecha’, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
People often assume brow services are meant to be quick and transactional—sit down, get up, and go. What I’ve built is the complete opposite of that old nail salon experience people grew up with. Browsations is intentional, elevated, and deeply personal. It’s about precision, confidence, and creating an experience where women feel seen, relaxed, and transformed—not rushed.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Danecha’ McKisset, an award-winning professional brow artist, licensed esthetician, and the founder of Browsations The Ultimate Beauty Co., based in Baltimore. With over a decade of experience, I specialize in precision brow artistry and natural glam that enhances not masks a woman’s beauty. What makes my brand unique is the experience I’ve created: Browsations is where luxury meets intention. It’s not just about great brows—it’s about confidence, comfort, and creating a space where busy professional women can slow down, feel cared for, and walk out elevated. Beyond the chair, I’m expanding into education, digital products, and curated beauty offerings to help women look good, feel good, and move differently in every area of their lives.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a young woman in college because that’s what I was taught to do—follow the traditional path. But even then, I had always been creative at heart. As a kid, I dabbled in everything from designing and sewing clothes to doing nails, makeup, and eventually brows. I’ve always been a big dreamer, and for a long time I thought that dream looked like becoming a full-time teacher while running a business on the side. Growing up as a millennial, the beauty industry wasn’t seen as a ‘real’ career—but life has a beautiful way of bringing you back to who you truly are. Eventually, I found myself right back at the very thing I dreamed of as a child: owning my own business, creating with my hands, and making my own rules. Browsations is not just my career—it’s a full-circle moment that proves when you honor your gifts, everything aligns.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes—just last year. I gave birth to my second child in early 2024, and from the summer before that, my business lost about half of its clientele, which meant half of my income. As a mom of one and pregnant with another, that was terrifying. I had to move out of my suite because I couldn’t afford it anymore and spent four months popping up at a station in a friend’s salon just to continue servicing my remaining clients. At one point, I fully planned to walk away and start a completely new career because now I had two little people depending on me. But with the support of my family, my boyfriend, and a lot of prayer, I found my way back. God told me to trust Him and keep pushing—and I did. I got my suite back, rebuilt my business, and today I’m blessed with an even stronger, more aligned clientele than before.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would say that community and relationships truly matter most to me. I’m a genuine people person—I love hard, celebrate loudly when my people win, and I’m always a safe place when life gets heavy. I never want anyone I love to question how I feel about them.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I was genuine in a world that often isn’t, that I loved loudly, mothered with intention, and left every room—and every person better than I found them. I want my legacy to be that I elevated the people around me simply by being myself.
