Shy Royal shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Shy, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I’m an avid reader I love reading, I still prefer the physical books to the digital movement happening now, When I start a new book I like to get lost in the story so I can truly visualize what I am reading, puts me in the mindset that I am watching a movie or tv show.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Shy creatively known as Shady; I am the CEO and 1/3 Host of The Rudely Honest Podcast, as an individual I dabble in creative/poetic writing, my brother calls it my hidden talent :-). As a podcast we recently celebrated our 5th Anniversary with a live show and Podcast party in our hometown, as any entrepreneur or creative knows consistently producing anything for 5 straight years can be a task in itself, so that’s definitely an accomplishment I am proud of.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was as a young adult, as a natural people pleaser I struggled with setting and enforcing personal boundaries in my romantic and interpersonal relationships, after struggling with my mental health I sought out a therapist, and she help equip me with the appropriate tools to enforce those boundaries. Including, learning and understanding that No is indeed a complete sentence, LOL.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are worthy of the love you give to others, you deserve to be here.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
That not everyone should be invited to the cookout lol, I think we as a people have shared our spaces with everyone but we are not always welcome in those same rooms. So, it’s time that we leave some things just to us.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I showed up! Even when I was tired, hurting, or just didn’t want to, I still showed up for the people I loved and cared for, and even in the moments that I couldn’t I still tried to make my presence felt in my absence.
