We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shea Wilson. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Shea, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day looks like me getting up, going to shower then praying the fajr prayer. Next, I will check my social media and my website to see if I have any new clients or orders. After that, I’ll go walk my dog and just enjoy nature. Sometimes I’ll eat breakfast or drink a protein shake before I get my workday started.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello and Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatu everyone! My name is Shea. I’m the owner of a salon suite and perfume oil business named Shea‘s Glam Haus. I started my journey as a cosmetologist student in high school at the age of 16. After high school, I had obtained my cosmetology license and went to college while building my business as a hairstylist.
In 2023 I opened my salon suite in Columbia, Maryland. In July 2025, I started my perfume oil business to cater to the Muslim community that I am now a part of.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I would say my relationship with God has shaped how I view myself. Before I reverted to Islam in March 2025, I felt very lost in this world, and I felt like I was a failure, even though I had my own salon suite and I was in school and successful in school. After I reverted, I still struggled here & there with high & lows of how I viewed myself. Sometimes I would be overly critical of myself, and I would try to push myself to do more, which isn’t necessarily bad but it became toxic for me. Building a more solid relationship with God and being able to pray five times a day or at least try to pray five times a day helps me regulate my emotions and it reminds me that no matter what I plan in this life, God‘s plan is always better. I’m also reminded that as long as I try to be better than I was a few weeks ago, progress is better than perfection.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There are plenty of times in the past and currently that I want to give up, not only with my businesses but on myself and living. I’ve been battling bipolar depression since I was in fifth grade. It’s something that I battled with alone for most of my life and I don’t share with many people. My Business and God have really helped me to find a purpose and to keep me regulated in this life.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends or family members would say that having a moral code, treating people with kindness and how I wanna be treated is something that’s really important to me.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that when I leave this world, that people will see me as an influence for positivity and growth. I’m very far from perfect and I’m very aware that I make mistakes, but I always try to be better than I was the previous day, week, month, or year. I pray that I’m able to help as many people as I possibly can! I want my legacy to be that it’s okay to struggle as long as you keep going.
