Rising Stars: Meet William Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Jackson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is William B. Jackson, and I started my business, Impact. Promises. Legacy. Athletes in August of 2019. As a business major with a concentration in management, I was always asked by my professor, “what type of business do I plan to own?” And I never knew the answer to this question lol. What I did know is that I wanted to get into coaching basketball. So, I had the opportunity of managing the men’s basketball team at Bowie State University and Montgomery College, which provided me the opportunity to assess, identify, and train the player’s skills and abilities to help them become better players. In addition, I was always asked by my friends and family if we can work out together. Therefore, I made the decision of why not opening up a training business that way I can utilize my gifts in helping people achieve their goals. As I look at where I am today, I am amazed at how much God has blessed me with the opportunity to make a positive impact in so many people’s lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path to success is built with stop signs, detours, and a lot of faith, but it is all worth it. When I started my business, I was working a full-time job, and just got the opportunity to become the head basketball coach at Howard University Middle School. However, all opportunities came to a stop due to the Coronavirus. With no income coming in, and no exact location of where to train my clients, I had to assess where my business was at, and adapt to the environment around me. Therefore, through the grace of my parents, I was able to transform a portion of my parent’s basement into a fitness gym. The pandemic was a blessing in disguise because it forced me to become creative in how my business operates.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At the start of the pandemic, I made the decision to run my business full-time for over a year. My business offers the services of fitness training, both in-person and virtual, athletic development, and recovery revitalization. Now that I have been blessed with a new job opportunity, as the Director of Production, as well as the Director of Fitness at the City of Praise Family Ministries, I have been able to make a far greater impact in people’s lives. I have also been blessed with the opportunity to have a flexible schedule which allows me to still attend to my business clients.

What sets me apart is my willingness to listen to what the client wants and needs, so that I may be able to help them achieve the results they are seeking. I try to meet the client where they are at in their fitness journey and ease them into a consistent routine that allows them to feel their progression before they actually see it.

What I am the most proud of is the joy in my client’s face when they see the results they are seeking to achieve. In addition, I am grateful that they entrust in my business to help them along their fitness journey.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
When I first started my business, I read a lot of books, from self-assessment books like Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill to autobiographies, such as ‘I can’t make this up: Life Lessons by Kevin Hart. I also listened to many podcasts, such as Secret to Success Podcast and The V report at MTMV sports, which I have been blessed to do multiple interviews with to document the journey of I.P.L. Athletes. I searched through different apps, such as Instagram and Facebook to see how I should promote the content, how often I should provide content, as well as the aesthetics of my page. Furthermore, I read different blogs and listened to webinars on how to shape my website, so that it may look professional and that it is goal-oriented, organized, useful, functional, intuitive, and search-friendly.

The goal is to never stop learning, about your industry, your environment, and yourself. This helps you build your brand, generate leads and sales, and engage with potential clients. If you are a willing learner, you’ll always have the opportunity to grow.
