Waya Boy, born Lukwago Tonny on September 4, 2001, at Lubaga Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, began his educational journey at St. John Bosco Katende for primary school, followed by St. Maria Gorretti Secondary School Katende. He later attended Bukland High School Nsangi for his college studies. Before pursuing music, Waya Boy was passionate about building and creating things, designing and building working models of a helicopter, jet engine, and bird-inspired mechanism in fourth grade.
The Shift to Music
However, he had to switch gears when he realized the government wasn’t supporting these initiatives. He then joined a dance group called Light Fact in grade 6, where he showcased his skills in B-boying and breakdancing. Waya Boy started writing music in grade 6, but it wasn’t until Senior 2 at St. Maria Gorretti Secondary School Katende in 2017 that he formed a trial music group with friends and recorded his first song.
Launching His Solo Career
He launched his solo career in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, recording a song called ‘Hullo’ and later shooting a music video for it. With his determination and love for music, Waya Boy is well on his way to achieving his long-term goals.
