Today we’d like to introduce you to That Boy Got Knowledge Podcast.
Hello, That Boy Got Knowledge, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We started That Boy Got Knowledge (TBGK) with the guys in John’s apartment. The guys have known each other since high school and in the first episode, we talked about transitioning from sports to everyday life. We were all struggling with leaving the game behind and were having a conversation about what we could do to inspire the youth and leave an impact.
We dropped that episode and it took off on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube. Once that hit, we realized we had something special and decided to keep the momentum going. Then, Ruztique and Janae came into the picture because we needed some diversity of opinion.
We started recording That Girl Got Knowledge, the sister to TBGK, and decided to bring on Ebonee to complete the team. Both shows share multiple perspectives on subjects ranging from sports to controversial topics to fashion, love to lifestyle covering all cultural conversations, and building a platform to educate but encourage viewers to engage.
We needed marketing and creative direction. Lindsey and Tim handle the behind-the-scenes work for the team. Dominique is our producer who keeps us on schedule when recording new content. This all came together pretty fast but everything was so genuine and we all believe in what this podcast can do for the people who have experiences similar to ours.
We want this podcast to be different than any other which is why we have the barbershop flow of conversation. No scripts, just day-to-day conversation. We feel that those are the best-unshared stories.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road but we build brick by brick.
We started with finding the funds for recording by reaching out to sponsors to get them engaged with our mission statement. Some did, some didn’t but we used what we had to get things started. Also, we’ve had to have some courageous conversations as a team surrounding commitment and dedication to the cause. Finding guests that are willing to come to drop their knowledge can also be challenging.
We’ve learned to be okay with being told no because we know everyone isn’t going to believe in what we are doing, and that’s okay. We take the negativity as motivation for us to get better each episode. The feedback, the criticism. We take it into consideration and make changes as needed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a podcast. We specialize in the motivational speaking and we are social influencers.
We are proud to have a platform that is relatable for people around the world. The positive feedback and support we’ve been getting from people who only know us from the 45-minute episodes are unmatched.
Our creativity is real, what we say is unscripted, and that sets us apart. Coming from a small city, things like this are usually not possible but we’re paving the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We don’t believe in luck. We believe in hard work and dedication and it’s starting to pay off slowly but surely. We believe in God and His plan for us.
