Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheaira Madden.
Hi Sheaira, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Make-up for me started when I was just a little girl watching my mom get ready for a night out. She would take her finger and put a little eyeshadow on my lid and that always made my night! I then fell in love with things like lipgloss, eyeliner, and mascara just for minor enhancements.
Later, I started to experiment with my eyebrows and it really went from there. I am a self-taught makeup artist and for me, it’s not about the money, it’s about doing having fun and it is really about how I feel when I finish my face or a client’s face.
Makeup is an outlet for me, I love to enhance the natural beauty we possess. It is also an industry that forces me out of my comfort zone and forces me to keep learning!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been the smoothest road, however, all great things take time. I would say some of the struggles for me, being a full-time college student, is staying consistent with uploading content. Another struggle that I am sure all creatives experience, is the motivation to actually get up and create or experience roadblocks.
The last struggle for me I would say is building clientele. Other than those things it has been a fun journey seeing how far I’ve come, how much I learned, and how much I still have to learn!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance, self-taught makeup artist. I specialize in natural/soft glam makeup looks as I like to focus on creating a very natural skin-like finish, while still having glamorous features (highlights, blush, eyebrow highlights, etc.) I am most proud of my growth and development thus far as a self-taught artist.
I believe what sets me apart from others is the fact that this is not the main source of income for me so I am able to do what I love graciously. I actually care about my clients and their self-esteem, I do not believe people need a whole bunch of makeup to be beautiful… a little goes a long way!
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters the most to me is enjoying what I do and learning everything I can learn about this industry from techniques to products/tools, to skin types/textures/complexions. What also matters a lot is my goal to take all the naturally pretty girls and effortlessly ENHANCE the beauty you all already possess!
