Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Blake.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved from Michigan 18 years ago and began working for Confetti Events, which at the time specialized exclusively in high-end children’s birthday parties. After a few years, the owner decided to move to the West Coast and told me, “This company was made for you.” We worked out a deal, and at just 23 years old, I became the owner of Confetti Events. (Not without its hard shaps- that was a lot of money and responsibility for a 23 year old to take on with no prior anything- I was very appreciative of the original owner and her patience/kindness)
While I truly loved producing children’s events, the workload was intense—often five to ten events every weekend. As I began taking on a few corporate clients, the business naturally evolved. Before I knew it, we had transitioned into a primarily corporate-focused event company. Today, we produce everything from galas and meetings to outings and summer picnics. If it’s corporate, we do it.
I still miss children’s events—but I definitely don’t miss the 20-hour days!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d say it was a mix of both. In my twenties, I really struggled with the business side of the company—earning trust, especially as a 23-year-old owner, was no small feat. Then COVID hit, and I was convinced the company wouldn’t survive.
Instead, I pivoted. I offered virtual events to my corporate clients and created balloon birthday displays and front-yard birthday drop-offs—whatever I could do to keep the business afloat. It took creativity, flexibility, and a lot of determination with very limited sleep, multiple days in a row.
Coming out on the other side, I had longtime clients and a much larger client base. It was the least amount of sleep I’ve ever had, but every moment was worth it. My family—my parents, siblings, and close friends—truly carried me through the toughest times. And together, we made it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in custom, large-scale events, as well as corporate meetings and offsite gatherings—transforming them from standard, buttoned-up affairs into experiences that feel engaging, cheerful, and thoughtfully designed. I truly love the details that bring events to life, from décor and color selection to the precision of day-of execution. There’s nothing quite like creating centerpieces, setting the atmosphere, and seeing a client’s face light up as they walk into a fully transformed space. It’s a feeling unlike any other.
What I’m most proud of, honestly, is myself. I kept going—without ever advertising. The majority of my clients came through personal connections I made at baseball games, birthday parties, or their children’s events. I’m naturally very social (I can talk to anyone!), and I genuinely love bringing someone’s vision to life.
What sets us apart isn’t just our “bedside manner” and how we treat our clients—it’s that we create about 90% of our décor and props in-house. Even for day-of meetings or more traditionally “baseline” events, we find ways to make them feel less stuffy and more branded, elevated, and full of good energy. I do a lot of work for banks, and I always say—if we can keep them coming back, we can do anything.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
One of my largest clients is based in Maryland, and as a NOVA girl, I find myself crossing the water more often than not—sometimes for work, and sometimes just for the joy of it. I’ve loved the incredible people I’ve had the privilege of working with, the stunning venue spaces, and of course, the waterfront views and activities that make each experience feel special. Between the artsy neighborhoods, rich history, and life on the water, I often find myself thinking—does it get any better than this?
