Rising Stars: Meet Paige Roberts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Roberts.

Paige Roberts

Hi Paige, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up outside of Baltimore near BWI airport. After attending college at Mount St. Mary’s University and receiving my BA in Communication and MBA in Marketing over six years, I told myself I would take a break before I began my career. However, before I knew it, I found myself applying for jobs. I didn’t expect to find an open position at a Baltimore Brewery.

While studying abroad in Dublin in 2019, I took a class on beer and brewing and found the history of the craft to be fascinating. I fell in love with the historical site in which Guilford is located and began working as an administrative assistant, learning all of the facets, and operations, and working towards achieving the long-term goals of the business alongside our General Manager, Jared Fischer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Working in the food and beverage industry comes with a variety of obstacles, especially in a post-pandemic world.

As a creative, I found it challenging to navigate the legalities and technical tasks required in an administrative role. Luckily, there was an alternate opportunity for me available at Guilford, and I am now the marketing manager – a role in which I’m able to exercise my creative skills.

Creating a competitive advantage as a craft brewery is not an easy feat, and I would consider this one of the most challenging obstacles in my role thus far. With thousands of varieties of unique beer styles on the market, fostering a craft beer brand that resonates with consumers is no easy task.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a marketing manager at a young local brewery, I handle a wide scope of tasks and projects, some of which corporate marketing professionals, by contrast, would have no influence.

Daily, I coordinate between our distribution, design, and events departments to complete creative projects, provide direction for packaging design, write & distribute email campaigns, manage paid ads, write press releases, and communicate with various outlets to foster relationships with new and current local partners.

I specialize in copywriting and design. I have a love for rhetoric and enjoy crafting copy that engages audiences. Designing beer can label is a recurring creative task that allows me to deepen and expand our brand image. Most recently, I collaborated with our designer to relabel our Dark Lager to celebrate the success seen in Baltimore football this year.

I’m most proud of the white-label designs that we have produced for a variety of local partners, including the Goose Flights Foundation, Maryland Cycling Classic, the Ulman Foundation, and Sessa & Dorsey Estate Planning, to name a few. These labels are customized according to the organization’s vision, and used to promote their business. It’s been an honor to assist in executing these projects; hearing the satisfied feedback of our partners motivates me.

What matters most to you? Why?
Connecting with the Baltimore community and creating an authentic brand.

There’s nothing I value more than authenticity; Baltimore shows me its authenticity every day through the kindness of its people. I believe that authentic connection is the key to building Baltimore’s communities, and this is a concept that I strive to reflect in my work.
