Today we’d like to introduce you to MONDAYS Plant Studio. Them and their team share their story with us below:
MONDAYS Plant Studio is a small creative space where art, streetwear, and houseplants are the foundation of our passions.
Owned by Ashley and Carmelo Sanchez, MONDAYS is owned and operated by people of color.
We represent the exact definition of Jay-Z infamous “92 bricks” lyrics: “Lost 92 bricks, had to fall back. Knocked a ***** off his feet, but I crawled back. Had A1 credit, got more crack. From the first to the fifth, gave it all back. If I ain’t a hustler, what you call that?”
Founded during the beginning of the pandemic, Ashley began selling houseplants online utilizing touch-free delivery and pickup. Carmelo was always a creative who worked with many brands, but finally found peace and satisfaction once working for his wife (laughs).
Consider our studio a boutique where exclusive streetwear is released on a weekly basis in limited quantities, houseplants are stocked twice per week, and art is presented with a new approach: in the form of paintings, rugs, and accessories.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While the road hasn’t been too rough, the most challenging obstacles we’ve faced has been ourselves.
Whether it be a lack of confidence or worried about the other bigger brands, we’ve found ourselves praying, redesigning, and saying “f*** it” plenty of times.
It’s worked.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a creative, it’s hard to say what piece or project I’m most proud of but I can absolutely say this: I enjoy the process.
From thinking of a name to a color to wondering how the audience will view each project. It’s my favorite part of being a creative.
Turning absolutely nothing to something, or to everything 😉
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Concerning risk-taking, we’ve learned to say “f*** it” more than the average person.
We had no business plan, no loan, and no overhead. We just believed in our brand and idea enough that nothing else mattered.
While I don’t exactly suggest going in head first, you have to have some type of “f*** it” attitude to really obtain the sh** people consider unobtainable.
It’s all possible.
