Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Potarazu.
Hi Liz, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Baltimore County, on my grandparent’s former farm, and my home felt warm, layered, and lived in, not at all fussy. I think that shaped how I approach design today. I now live and work outside DC, in Potomac, but that warmth and practicality still influence how I design.
Before interior design, I worked in sales and marketing and later earned my MBA, which heavily influences how I run projects today. I approach design creatively, but also strategically and operationally.
I started LP & Co. because I wanted to create homes that feel elevated, personal, and truly functional for the people living in them. I pay close attention to how layout, lighting, scale, color, and materials affect the experience of a space, but at the end of the day, great design still has to feel personal.
I genuinely believe your environment can either support you or work against you, whether that’s helping you feel calm, productive, connected, inspired, or simply able to exhale at the end of the day. The goal is always to create a home that supports real life while still feeling refined.
LP & Co. was founded in 2022.
Today, LP & Co. is a boutique firm based in Potomac, serving high-end residential clients across DC, Northern Virginia, Maryland, and occasionally the Baltimore area, along with select commercial office projects. There’s something very full-circle about still working in the region where I grew up.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not smooth. I’d be suspicious of anyone who said otherwise!
Running a boutique design firm means wearing a lot of hats at the same time. You’re the creative director, project manager, problem solver, and sometimes the person chasing down a fabric backorder at the end of the day. The actual design work is only one part, and often a small part, of running a firm.
Learning how to build the systems around the business so the client experience stayed strong as the projects became more complex was probably one of the biggest challenges and I’m constantly evolving and pushing myself forward in that respect. And with AI now, there’s so much that can be done on the backend to support my business, and I’ve been committed to learning, even if it’s a lot of trial-and-error.
Clients are trusting you with their homes, their budgets, and often very personal parts of their lives. Earning that trust takes time, and the only real shortcut is consistency and taking accountability. You do what you said you’d do, when you said you’d do it, and you communicate well throughout the process. That matters more than people realize.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
LP & Co. is a boutique interior design firm based in Potomac, Maryland. We specialize in high-end residential design across DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland, along with a select number of commercial office projects.
Our approach balances technical rigor with a highly personal design process. We think carefully about how color, lighting, scale, layout, and materiality influence the way a home feels and functions on a daily basis, but the best spaces are still the ones that reflect the people living in them. We believe that your home was meant to support every version of you.
We’re known for layered, livable interiors that feel elevated without feeling untouchable. We design for real life: kids, dogs, entertaining, all of it.
Clients also know we’re deeply involved throughout the process. They work directly with me, and we’re very hands-on from concept through execution. We spend a lot of time thinking through the details: floor plans, lighting placement, millwork design, construction coordination, procurement logistics, all the things that make a project feel seamless when it’s finally complete.
When a homeowner decides to take on a design project, whether it’s a renovation or furnishings, it can quickly become a full-time job on top of the job that they already are working and getting paid to do. What probably sets us apart most is the combination of thoughtful design and strong project leadership. I want clients to feel guided and supported throughout the process, not overwhelmed by it.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the fact that the majority of our projects come through referrals from past clients and I have multiple repeat clients. That’s always been the most meaningful measure of success to me.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that great design alone is not enough to create a successful project. Good projects require communication, systems, and strong leadership just as much as creativity.
Early on, I probably overpromised timelines because I was optimistic. Now I’m much more focused on setting realistic expectations and communicating consistently throughout the process. Clients don’t expect perfection. They want transparency, responsiveness, and confidence that someone is leading the project well.
I’ve also learned that good vendors and trade partners are invaluable. The right people make all the difference.
