Today we’d like to introduce you to Letam Duson.
Hi Letam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an attorney and that is what I wanted to be since high school. I’ve been practicing for 11 years in various areas of the law and I am currently a full-time prosecutor. However, about 5 years ago I was in private practice working at a law firm. I hated billable hours, it was the pandemic, and I desperately needed a creative outlet. I have always loved fashion, so I decided to start a new Instagram account (@LeyAllDay) highlighting my favorite things…fashion, travel, food, and fun experiences. I would show outfits I wore and shortly after I started the account, people started to comment on posts asking if I did styling. I always responded no, because while I styled myself and occasionally friends and family, that was it. After about the fifth person asked, I thought to myself, “Why don’t I?!” There clearly was an interest/need. I started to reach out to my lawyer friends asking about the ins and outs of starting a business and all that was required. Based on the information they gave me, I decided I would give it a shot and just see how things went.
I then made a series on Instagram called Build a Brand With Me and got follower input on my logo and other parts of the business. Since they were responsible for me even having the idea to start a business, I wanted them to be part of the journey. I formed my business, Ley All Day, LLC and officially started taking clients in October 2022.
The business started with only one-on-one styling services, which I still do, but it has expanded to other aspects as well. I speak to law firms, companies, and organizations about the relationship between how we feel about our image and confidence. I partner with boutiques and major brands for private shopping events. I have a paid style membership for women and men where members get work, night out, and casual outfit inspiration ideas sent to them monthly that they can easily shop, as well as the option for one-on-one time with me. I host a free monthly workshop on various style topics. I’ve been a style contributor for Business Insider and Huffington Post articles.
In 2026, I will be hosting a luxury women’s retreat to Italy that combines my love of fashion, travel, and delicious food— the exact same things the LeyAllDay Instagram account was started to highlight. I haven’t looked back since and I’m really just getting started!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road! Starting a business with no business training whatsoever while balancing a demanding full time job is no easy task. There are major constraints on my time as I can only work on the business after work or on the weekends. Another major struggle along the way was financial. When you are a small business there are a ton of start up costs before you ever start taking clients or bringing in any money, so there is a big financial investment that you have to make and hope/work hard to make sure you can recoup later. Also being a solopreneuer, I was doing everything for the business myself…website, all social media, newsletter, bookkeeping, etc. I still have my hands in everything related to the business, but I luckily now have an assistant who handles tasks that don’t need me. I don’t have to do everything myself, but I had to work up to being able to hire support.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I offer a variety of personal styling services to help busy professionals look and feel their most confident. From closet clean outs, in-person shopping, virtual shopping, special occasion shopping, vacation shopping, and more. If it’s related to styling and you don’t see it on my website, I can likely make a custom package based on individual needs. That’s the beauty of having your own business. My goal is simply to ease the stress of getting dressed for my clients. I am known for helping professionals elevate their wardrobes to dress for the success they deserve. I also educate professionals about various style aspects. I specialize in promoting body positivity, self-love, and size-inclusiveness.
I am most proud that I followed my passion, built a successful business on my own, and it has been so fulfilling.
What sets me apart is that I am actual working professional, so I understand the balance of wanting to look professional, but also showing your personality with your image. I go to court, have speaking engagements, attend board meetings, attend awards ceremonies, go to networking events, and attend organizational meetings. I know how professionals should look for their various obligations and events because I participate in them myself, not just think what that should look like based on what I see on TV shows. My first styling client was actually someone that I went to law school with. She started following my LeyAllDay Instagram account and when I launched Ley All Day and announced I was accepting clients, she immediately booked a consultation and said she had considered hiring a stylist for a while but did not think they understood the lawyer look, but knew I did.
Naturally, many of my clients are attorneys and judges. However, I work with professionals in all industries.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I always bet on myself knowing that whatever I set my mind to, I will give my full effort and be successful, so naturally, I believe that makes me a risk taker. Although I move through my life with that level of confidence, deciding to start a business was a major risk and that raised a number of concerns. I was concerned about the risk of failure. What if I launched and there was no interest and no one scheduled a consultation? I was also concerned about my reputation. The legal profession can be very strait-laced, and starting a fashion business is coloring outside the lines. What would those in the legal community think of me doing something so different than what I was known for? I was also concerned about taking a big financial gamble on a venture I had no clue if it would be successful. I am working with a government salary and mountain of school loans, so what if this does not make me any money?
Nevertheless, I moved forward because I am a strong believer in “no risk, no reward,” especially in business. So, I took the risk! And, I continue to take risks every time I introduce a new aspect of the business because I do not how it will be received, but I will never know unless I put it out there, so I always just do it and see what happens. That philosophy has served me well so far.
