Rising Stars: Meet Lea Kouzios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lea Kouzios.

Hi Lea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I taught myself how to crochet in 2020 at the height of the Covid pandemic, initially, this all started as a hobby and a pastime. When Covid started I was still an intelligence analyst in the army in Georgia, fast forward to becoming a stay a home mom in 2021 and moving up to Maryland in 2022. After my son was born in 2021, I took my hobby and turned it into a business to help me diversify my day. I really have social media to thank for my “how I got here.” Without TikTok, I don’t think I would be pursuing a small business at all.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I definitely wouldn’t say it has been smooth, but nothing in life is a smooth road. I’ve been fortunate to have consistent growth and continued support from family and friends. I think the hardest part so far has been finding the right balance between putting time into my business and my family. My family ultimately comes first, but sometimes you’re chasing a high from a viral video or a successful sale and that can take time away from the family.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I consider myself a crochet artist! If you asked my friends, they’d tell you I’m known for making jumbo crocheted plushies. This is what I think sets me the most apart from my peers. When crocheting, you generally follow a pattern and utilize a certain yarn size from that pattern. I take yarn significantly larger than the pattern recommendation and use that instead, which makes unpredictably large projects. My favorite giant project so far has been a 52-inch tall Pikachu that weighed 26 lbs.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband hands down gets the most credit. He has been my number one fan from day one and has always encouraged me to continue working at my goals -no matter how crazy they feel.

Each and every person who has purchased a plushie from me or follows me on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram deserves credit too. New followers and supporters push me to continue creating new plushies and content and for that, I’m so so grateful!

Pricing:

  • A little something for everyone, plushies generally range from $8 – $600+
