Rising Stars: Meet Kymbrianna Jefferson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kymbrianna Jefferson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I actually started my business as a side hustle about three years ago. Growing up I was never really interested in makeup or anything affiliated with it. I was more of a tomboy. But I grew to love it. I practiced almost everyday, and once I noticed that I actually had potential I kept going. I began to have clientele within months of promoting myself on social media and practicing on models. Once I started to master my craft in makeup, I figured I would learn as much as I could about the beauty industry. Now I also offer the service of lash extensions. I hope that in the near future I will continue to grow and maybe even motivate others to want to become entrepreneurs.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has never been as smooth as I would have liked for it to be, but it is definitely worth it. Once I noticed the things I’ve done to maintain my business I realize how much time and energy it takes to run a business by yourself. Having a business is great, but there is a lot of baggage that comes along with it. Being a single mother I may spend a couple of hours or a whole day not being able to spend time with my child because I have to work and travel. Along with spending money on products and traveling to and from clients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a certified makeup artist, as well as a certified lash technician. I have been doing makeup for about 3 years, and lashes for about 2 years. I absolutely love what I do. I would have to say that I am the most proudest of my growth. I never saw myself as an entrepreneur growing up. I didn’t think I was creative enough. But to see myself start from scratch with no experience and no clientele to having a steady clientele and a business that just keeps growing and growing is a true blessing. Right now I am actually in the process of starting a lash supply line for other lash technicians to be able use my lash glues and trays for their clients. I feel what sets me apart from everyone else is that this isn’t just a job for me. It is my life, it is what I love, and I hope to continue to grow from here.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would love love love to thank Ms. Roshe from BEAT SCHOOL OF MAKEUP ARTISTRY, she was the one who introduced me to it all. If she didn’t push me to finish the class I would not have my small business right now. And also to everyone who has ever watched my child for me while I had to work. It truly does take a village to raise a child. I really appreciate the help and support.
