Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylen Brown (JB).
Hi Jaylen Brown. It’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Hello, world! My name is Jaylen Brown; born & raised in Baltimore, Maryland. As a young toddler, I remember distinctly listening to all genres of music and dancing. However, I can recall the most distinct one at three years old, when my mom was playing Love Stoned by Justin Timberlake. I believe I discovered my true love for dance and music then. Dancing on the bed while my mom danced directly next to me. Over the years, l would become infatuated with dance and music: freestyling and re-creating choreography from many of my favorite artists, including Beyonce. Auditioning for the middle school hip-hop team, which i cut. Joining that team showed me how much joy performing brings me. I then attended George Washington carver center for the arts & technology for Dance. My senior year I became a fashion show director with 3 amazing friends of mine. Being hands on creating a production expanded my dreams and imagination. Throughout my 18 years, I’ve been influenced by entertainment, from dancing, acting, fashion, modeling, creative directing, and producing dance visuals. Connecting with an audience and creating Moments is something I love doing. I am an entertainer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I completed my first dance visual, I remember someone telling me. “this is just the beginning, and It won’t be easy” They sure were right! I produced my 2nd dance visual, and leading up to the project; there were many obstacles. My dance partner Aniyah Alvelo & I both caught Covid-19 the day before our shoot, which delayed our original rollout process. My creative direction was profited & not given credit. For these things to happen in my career has been eye-opening. It’s taught me to protect my art. I believe that things happen for a reason; That same visual was seen by the singer herself, “Sinead Harret.” She shared the project with her socials and sent me a heartfelt voice memo that I will cherish forever!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I Produce, choreograph , and creative direct cinematic dance visuals. I filmed my first visual at 17 on July 23, 2021. That experience opened a new perspective on what dance means to me. I get to create my story, These next visuals are gonna be filled with excellence, experience, and entertainment. I am a young arts 2022 winner and was the first student at my high school to become a winner in my dance prime! I have worked on live shows and music videos choreographed by me. Here are a few artists: Tyeler Reign, Pixitrix, Lil key, TT the artist, and Dapper Dan Midas. I star in the Netflix musical documentary dark city beneath the beat. Directed by TT, the artist and Executive produced by Issa Rae.This film showcases Baltimore club music and highlights where I’m from!
What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit if you had to?
Peace is important to my success. Every day we consume so much media, interactions, and workload that we never have a chance to appreciate the blessings right in front of us. Your peace is paramount, Being intentional contributes to my success. I love what I do & will give 110%. One thing that has gotten me to where I am is being a kind person. It doesn’t matter how talented you are. People will remember how you treat them. I make sure to surround myself with people who are grateful & grounded.
