Today we’d like to introduce you to Ja’teera Crawley.
Hi Ja’teera, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From learning to style hair in 6th grade as the oldest of four while supporting my mother in pursuing her GNA, my passion for beauty, creativity, and empowering others to feel confident has evolved into a purposeful journey that has shaped both my thriving hair business and my long-term vision.
What began as an interest in hairstyling and creative expression developed into a structured business of my own. As I continued to learn, practice, and refine my skills, I expanded my client base and broadened my service offerings to include sew-ins, quick weaves, braids, wigs, and a variety of protective styles.
As my hair business continued to grow, I expanded my creative expertise into makeup artistry. I became a self-taught MUA and had the opportunity to collaborate with Star Faces and Honey Company, two organizations that further strengthened my creative development and professional experience.
By 2022, I became increasingly intentional about entrepreneurship. I expanded my brand presence as an Instagram influencer, began modeling, and secured opportunities to model for emerging brands as well as participate in commercial projects.
In 2023, I became more deeply involved in supporting children on the autism spectrum, individuals with Down syndrome, and clients in behavioral health settings, which broadened my passion for care and service beyond beauty and entrepreneurship. I obtained my CPI, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications, strengthening my ability to provide safe, effective, and compassionate support in therapeutic environments. My commitment to working with children began early through the Youth Works program at age 14, and as I advanced in both therapeutic and non-therapeutic aide roles, I remained dedicated to continuous growth. I later earned my RBT certification in May 2026, which allowed me to provide more individualized, in-home support to clients with a focus on compassionate, client-centered care.
Along the way, I became a young mother at 21, yet I remained steadfast in my vision and continued building my business, recognizing it as an integral part of my identity and purpose. In February 2021, I formally established my LLC while raising two toddlers, a son and a daughter.
Today, I am proud of the progress I have made and the brand I continue to build. My goal is not only to provide high-quality hair services, but also to create an experience where every client feels beautiful, confident, and valued. I continue to grow, learn, and pursue larger goals, and I am genuinely excited for what the future holds for my business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. There have been challenges, setbacks, and moments when I questioned myself and wondered if I was on the right path. Balancing personal responsibilities, work, and building something of my own hasn’t always been easy.
There were times when things didn’t go according to plan, but those experiences taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of believing in myself. I’ve learned that success doesn’t happen overnight—it takes consistency, hard work, and the willingness to keep going even when things get difficult.
Looking back, I’m grateful for the struggles because they helped shape me into the person I am today. Every obstacle has taught me something valuable and pushed me to grow, both personally and professionally.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is centered around helping people feel confident, beautiful, and comfortable in their own skin. I specialize in hairstyling, including sew-ins, quick weaves, braids, wigs, and other protective styles. I’m known for paying attention to detail, creating styles that fit each client’s personality, and making sure every person who sits in my chair feels valued and cared for.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is being a mother, a business owner, and an entrepreneur. I truly enjoy being a jack of all trades and having the ability to wear many hats while still staying grounded in who I am. There is something fulfilling about building my own business, growing my brand, and using my gifts to help others feel good about themselves. I also find joy in being very family-oriented and selfless—putting love into everything I do for the people around me.
What I’m most proud of is the growth I’ve experienced—not just in my skills, but in my confidence as a business owner, a creative, and a mother. I’ve worked hard to build something that represents me, my passion for beauty, and my dedication to my family and community.
What sets me apart is that I don’t look at my clients as just another appointment. I take pride in creating a personal experience, listening to what they want, and making sure they leave feeling like the best version of themselves. I’m constantly learning, growing, and finding new ways to improve my craft and my business. For me, it’s about more than doing hair—it’s about creating confidence, building lasting relationships, and being able to help people while living a life rooted in purpose, love, and selflessness.
