Today we’d like to introduce you to JAGMAC.
Hi JAGMAC, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
The way we got started is kind of funny. We were having a surprise birthday party for our dad quite a few years ago. Our oldest brother, CJ, (who was about 13 at the time) thought it would be cool if we sang a song at the party.
So he wrote a song and made a dance routine that he taught all of us. We even got our uncle to create a simple looped beat for the song. When we performed it at the party, everyone was amazed!!! We had never even thought about starting a sibling group, but after we experienced the magic of performing altogether, we never wanted to stop!!!
Soon after, we connected with a local producer and the fun began. After a few months, we created more music and began performing at schools, churches, festivals… pretty much anywhere we could.
Fast forward a few years and we got a huge break when a friend introduced us to an investor of a small label based in the UK called De Angelis Entertainment. Under De Angelis, we worked with some of the top writers and producers in the US as well as the UK. We gained invaluable experience as we toured all across the UK and even managed to land a spot as a supporting act with the world-renowned female pop group, Little Mix, on their “Get Weird” UK arena tour. JAGMAC was also the #1 Breakout Artist and had a song called “Soldiers” that made it to the Top 15 of Billboard’s Hot Club Dance Chart.
Then in 2018, another huge break came under our next label, Unitas Entertainment, when we earned the title of Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing! This put JAGMAC on the map and in the company of previous NBT alumni – Shawn Mendez, Camilla Cabello, Alessia Cara, and others.
This title led to many incredible performance opportunities around the country for things like the US Open, the MLB All-Star Game, Epcot Center’s Food & Wine Festival, and a myriad of other performances at some of the most iconic venues across the country. We even had a US tour bus tour with former boy band, In Real Life, who were winners of the 2017 ABC singing competition, Boy Band,
With the release of our first full-length studio album on January 19th, we are super excited to see what 2024 has in store for us!!!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not always been smooth, but anything worth having usually requires some degree of risk and sacrifice. Since we started chasing this dream at such a young age, we had to forego a lot of the things that most young people get to experience.
Some things we sacrificed are: not going to a regular school, missing out on prom and other school events, never being able to play hard contact sports so we didn’t get hurt, and never being able to commit to a full-time job because of frequent travel. Trying to maintain long-distance relationships is also hard. Music is not an easy business to be in, but we know that this is our mission and the career that we chose together as a family.
We are confident that it will all be worth it in the long run. One thing we often remind ourselves of is that nothing in life is easy, and the way we get through the tough times together as a family is how we made it this far.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a Filipino-American sibling music group. One of the things that sets us apart from other artists in our field is that we are all black belts in both Tae Kwon Do and Eskrima (Filipino Stick Fighting).
We feel like this adds a lot of unique elements to our live performances since we incorporate some of the moves into our routines. We all sing, dance, write music, and some of the members of the group also play piano and guitar. Since we’re siblings chasing this dream/goal together as a family, we feel proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish on this crazy journey so far!
We are so humbled to see that other people believe in us and our mission together as a family. One thing we are proud of is the way our social media numbers have taken off. We have reached over 1.1 million followers on TikTok, and over 100K followers on Instagram, and our numbers continue to grow every day, this gives us a boost of confidence both as artists and as social media influencers.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
We love to read motivational books and listen to inspirational podcasts.
We feel it’s super important to immerse yourself in positivity, especially in this career that we have chosen. Some of the authors we like are Rhonda Byrne, Joseph Murphy, C.S. Lewis, and others. We also love the inspirational app called Hallow and the Joe Rogan podcast.
