Rising Stars: Meet Holly Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Murphy.

Hi Holly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I went to Arizona State University for college, then to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in LA and graduated with a Merchandise Product Development degree. After college, I started designing for a women’s clothing line in DT LA for a few years. My then-boyfriend (we met in college, now husband) ended up moving back to my hometown (he is from Illinois) because I was offered a job with a small boutique to start a clothing line. That ended up falling apart, a huge life lesson, so I decided to start a blog as a creative outlet for myself while I figured out what my next step was going to be.

I’ve been blogging and sharing on Instagram ever since because I just truly love it. It has changed a lot over time as my life has evolved. It started out strictly fashion but then I shared big life events as they happened; our engagement, wedding, loosing and welcoming new animals into our family, working on our fixer-upper with my family construction company FC Batton & Son, gardening and landscaping, etc. The past two years, we have been walking through pregnancy loss, so I decided to open up about that and it has been such a life savor to connect with other women who have been through and who are going through it as well. I would say it is more of a lifestyle blog and Instagram because I share a little bit of everything and I try to make it a very open and authentic place for people to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My blog and Instagram have always been a creative outlet while having other jobs to make money so I’ve never put too much pressure on it. Yes, there have been a lot of obstacles trying to figure out which ways to pivot, how to set myself apart, what areas to monetize and all of that but overall, I try to keep the content in real-time and just be as myself as possible.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started this platform because it was a fashion blog and creative outlet for myself but it has really morphed into more of a lifestyle blog where I share a little bit of everything. Decorating our fixer-upper, outfits for different events, fertility struggles and pregnancy loss – both the good and the bad. My goal is to make others feel less alone in their struggles as we have walked through the hardest time of our life recently and feeling alone has been such a hard part of the equation. Using our pain as purpose and I love the community that I have.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in Monkton, MD and had a very idealic childhood. Played lacrosse, field hockey and basketball had wonderful friends and family. I was very lucky.
