Today we’d like to introduce you to Hoang Pham.
Hi Hoang, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I have always loved being behind a camera, and I finally had a chance to turn my passion for cameras into a career. I started Hoang Pham Films in 2020 with a focus on weddings. My goal is always to get to know each couple and capture their wedding as a vendor and friend. It’s humbling being alongside couples as they go through a rollercoaster of emotions on such a momentous day and being able to help bring smiles, calm nerves, and, most importantly, capture it all for them to relive all the precious moments. While I do other types of events, both photography and videography, I am drawn to weddings for this reason: for the amazing couples. Starting a business, especially in 2020, was a bold move, but by the grace of God, I have been blessed with opportunities to grow this business into a full-time position, and it has been a fantastic journey getting to this point.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anyone who has started a business knows it takes work. But you do it because you are passionate about what you do, and that drives you to give it your all and keep going. Working through 2020 and the following years, I had many cancellations or postponements of weddings, which made my schedule chaotic. It was tough talking with and connecting with a couple only to have them cancel their wedding plans.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a wedding videographer who specializes in making the day feel genuine. I know that sounds strange, but I’ve seen couples who have worked with photo/video vendors who script out their day for them, and when they get their photos and videos back, it is a studio shoot or a scripted movie. I love capturing couples as they are on their wedding day, the smiles, the laughs, the emotions, all of it while letting them be comfortable and be themselves. Then I put it all together into a cinematic video, and they watch it back and feel like their wedding day was a movie, but everything is genuine. The joyful and amazed reactions I get from couples when they see their film for the first time keep me going, and I am very proud of how I can capture their day cinematically and genuinely.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the vibe of Baltimore. It has so much history and is a touch modern. I did a wedding in the harbor with the USS Constellation in the background, which added a historical feel that you don’t get anywhere else. The architecture of the city and the skyline are stunning and unforgettable. The only thing I can complain about is the traffic.
