Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriella Friedman
Hi Gabriella, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Photography has always been a refuge for me, but I never expected it to become my career. Growing up, I was on the national team for judo and thought that would be my future. But life took an unexpected turn, and after a difficult experience, I found myself drawn to photography. It became my first real outlet—a way to process emotions, express creativity, and eventually build something meaningful.
Years later, as I navigated the challenges of co-parenting, I found myself facing obstacles I never could have imagined. It wasn’t just about balancing time and responsibilities—it was about pushing forward in an environment where I often felt isolated, misrepresented, and emotionally drained. As a parent, it’s heartbreaking to miss time with my daughter and to see the impact of the situation on her. While I can’t always be there in the way I wish I could, I focus on being the steady, loving presence she can always count on.
Going through a high-conflict divorce reveals your support system. It’s a painful but eye-opening experience to see who stands by you when life gets difficult. At the same time, this journey has deepened my relationship with God, family members, friends, and clients. Photography is about connection, and I’m grateful my experiences have given me a level of empathy and compassion that I never would have had otherwise. Some of my clients have gone through almost identical situations, and when they share their stories, I truly understand what they’re feeling. That connection creates a layer of trust and comfort in my work that I’m incredibly proud of.
Through it all, my business has been my reminder of resilience. Every time I pick up my camera, I’m reminded that I am capable, that I am building something for myself and my daughters, and that I am more than just the circumstances I’m up against.
It’s incredibly important to me that my daughters see me in this role—not just as their mom, but as a woman who is pursuing her dreams, working hard, and overcoming challenges. I want them to grow up knowing that no matter what life throws at them, they are strong enough to create their own path.
Starting and growing Gabbi’s Galleria has been far from easy, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you don’t need the perfect circumstances to build something meaningful. Sometimes, the hardest moments in life push you toward exactly where you’re meant to be.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I don’t think growth ever comes from an easy path. Starting and running a business is challenging in itself, but doing so while navigating a high-conflict co-parenting situation added an entirely different layer of difficulty. There were times when I felt completely drained—emotionally, mentally, and physically—but I kept pushing forward because I knew I was building something important, not just for myself, but for my daughters and my clients as well.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to separate my personal struggles from my work. Photography requires being fully present in the moment, and there have been times when I’ve learned hard information right before stepping into a wedding or session. In those moments, I’ve had to set aside my emotions and give my clients the experience they deserve. But in an unexpected way, photography has also been my refuge. God has graced me with the ability to use my work as a way to clear my mind, and the very act of doing my job centers me. No matter what is happening in my personal life, capturing love, connection, and joy reminds me of the beauty that still exists.
This has been one of the hardest aspects of my journey, but it has also reinforced how deeply photography is intertwined with my life. It’s not just a career—it’s something that continues to ground me and remind me of my own strength.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a full-time wedding and portrait photographer, and my work is all about capturing genuine connections and timeless moments. Whether it’s a wedding day or a family session, I focus on creating images that feel natural, authentic, and full of emotion.
I’m known for my posing style, which isn’t about stiff or overly structured positions—it’s about guiding couples and families into moments that showcase their real connection. I want my clients to feel comfortable, to forget about the camera, and to just be present with each other. That’s where the magic happens. My editing style also reflects that approach—natural, timeless, and true to life. I want my clients to look back at their photos years from now and still feel the same emotions they did in that moment.
Beyond the images themselves, I take a lot of pride in the client experience I provide. I know that being in front of the camera can feel intimidating, so I strive to create a fun, relaxed, and enjoyable experience for every couple and family I work with. My goal is for my clients to leave their session not just with beautiful photos, but with beautiful memories, too.
What sets me apart is my ability to truly connect with my clients. Having been through my own challenges, I bring a level of empathy and understanding that allows me to see people beyond the surface. Some of my clients have gone through similar struggles, and I think that shared experience creates a level of trust that makes the photography process even more meaningful.
Ultimately, what I’m most proud of is being able to turn my passion into something that brings joy to others. I love that my work allows me to document love stories, family bonds, and moments that deserve to be remembered forever.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice for those just starting out is to recognize the value of wisdom and how it impacts your business decisions. No one knows everything, and, in reality, most of us know less than we think we do. The key is to stay open-minded and always be willing to learn.
Success isn’t just about talent—it’s about being adaptable, curious, and intentional in how you grow. There are so many incredible resources available, whether it’s online courses, mentorships, books, podcasts, or simply learning from the experiences of others. The moment you believe you have it all figured out is the moment you stop growing.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when starting a business, but instead of trying to know everything at once, focus on filling the knowledge gaps little by little. Learn from those who have done it before you, ask questions, and never be afraid to try new things. Creativity and business growth thrive when you remain open to learning.
At the end of the day, the best entrepreneurs and artists are the ones who stay teachable. Your business will evolve as you do, and the more wisdom you gain, the more intentional and confident your decisions will become.
