Rising Stars: Meet Erica N. Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica N. Williams.

Hi Erica, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

Absolutely! The story that led to where I am today began when my father passed away a few days after my 11th birthday. I was a true daddy’s girl. His death hurt beyond words, and I did not want to experience that sense of abandonment again. As a teen, I thought sex was the way to keep a man, so I compromised my Christian beliefs. As I grew older and experienced several failed relationships, I found that was not true.

In September 2011, I decided to abstain from sex until marriage. I did not know how to go about it; I just knew I wanted to honor God. I struggled in the beginning but found healing through writing, studying God’s word, and prayer. As I shared my journey on social media, other women would comment about how they were on the same journey but felt alone. I realized that there was a need for a safe space for women to connect and share the highlights and challenges of their journey. Thus, I started a community in October 2014 with nine women, and it has since evolved into Journey to Purity®, a trademarked brand with a community of over 1,200 people across the world on our various social platforms. In addition to community, Journey to Purity® offers a wide range of resources to help women thrive on their purity journeys. With devotionals, purity journals, eBooks, coaching, courses, and training, women receive access to all the resources they need to experience a real and positive change in their life.

Since November 2015, our charitable arm, Journey to Purity Foundation, has served more than 400 youth, young adults, and families in the Alexandria-Washington DC Metro Area and beyond through The Youth on a Journey monthly workshops, The Jewels and Gems Youth Conference, The Youth on a Journey Purity Pow Wow, The Youth on a Journey Conference, cause campaigns, service projects, Women on a Journey monthly workshops, retreats, and social outings.

When I started my purity journey, I only had one goal: to submit to God’s will. I never imagined just where this journey would take me. My journey is not perfect, but my purpose is. Being transparent and vulnerable in sharing my journey has not only transformed my life in a major way but also the lives of others. In addition to creating Journey to Purity®, I have also written two books, “Don’t Give Up: A 7-Day Devotional Journey for Women” (released September 2019) and “With God’s Help I Will: 54-Week Scripture, Prayer & Guided Purity Journal for Women” (released August 2021). I even help youth and young adults grow spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially through discipleship, purity coaching, and speaking engagements. I am thankful for every opportunity to encourage others to seek Christ and commit to the journey God uniquely designed just for them.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?

No, it has not been a smooth road. There were times when I wanted to give up because it seemed like the vision God gave me for Journey to Purity® was much greater than what I was capable of executing, especially when there was not a lot of participation in different events or programs. However, God reminded me that the vision was not meant for me to tackle alone and that I should not despise small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). With God’s help during this journey, I have grown in wisdom, knowledge, patience, resilience, and strength, and have even gained divine connections to help execute the vision for Journey to Purity®.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Currently, I am focused on launching Journey to Purity University™ (JTPU) to provide on-demand video lessons, resources, and materials to help individuals grow in their relationship with God and fulfill His purpose for their life. JTPU equips students with the knowledge and tools necessary to live a life that honors Christ Jesus. JTPU will be available so students can join an in-person or virtual class for community and support. I am excited about JTPU because it will help many learn how to overcome temptation, study the Bible, hear God’s voice, discover their purpose, and much more! To learn more about JTPU, visit the Journey to Purity® website (www.journeytopuritymovement.com) and sign-up for the newsletter.

In addition to being a Purity Coach, I am also a Purpose Activator. As a Purpose Activator, I help individuals push past self-limiting beliefs to embrace their God-given purpose so they can create opportunities that will be a blessing for them and their families and positively impact the lives of those they serve. I established several coaching services to help individuals monetize their passions and achieve their entrepreneurial goals. With my coaching services, we will cover everything from discovering their passion, to identifying how to develop, establish, secure, market, expand, and promote their brand. To learn more about these services, visit my website (www.ericanwilliams.com) and sign-up for my mailing list.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?

Sure. I’d love to share a fun fact. My arms do not go straight! Haha! I realized it when a classmate pointed it out while we were doing jumping jacks in PE during my Freshman year of high school. Up until that time, I did not realize that my arms did not fully extend. I saw specialists as a teen, but they could not determine the cause. Instead, I received arm braces to sleep in during the night. I will be honest; I did not wear them for long. However, the good news is that it does not hurt, and since I play golf, my arms’ extension provides for the perfect swing. Very similar to that of Calvin Peete who was an American professional golfer.
