Rising Stars: Meet Delano Johnson of Baltimore (Inner City)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delano Johnson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After retiring from the NFL (National football league) and CFL (Canadian football league) I needed an outlet for my stress. At the time of my retirement I was 300lbs and extremely depressed so I began running 1 mile every Monday Wednesday and Friday. After about two months of running in the rain snow etc. A few of my friends started to join. I eventually feel in love with running and signed up for my first 5k. To my surprise it was very hard to find any black people running in the races. In may of 2019 myself and a few friends signed up for the Sole of the city 10k and at the festival we made the decision to start during running festival for Black people so they could experience the great vibes , energy , and health benefits running had to offer. After months of procrastinating I called a meeting with 6 of my friends and laid out a plan to become Runners Run. 2020 we began hosting several free running events FOR ALL RUNNERS in the city and the turn out was incredible. 5 years later we now host our annual REP YOUR RUN CREW festival where we bring together crews from around the world and introduce them to 1st time runners, running vets, runners from all shapes, sizes, and paces.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have had our challenges but each challenge has made us better. We’ve battled through the pandemic, and financial struggles over the years but it’s all coming together

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
