Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlye Flieder.
Hi Carlye, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and began dancing at the age of two. Once I danced my first duo at the age of six, I knew dance would be an integral part of my life forever! While studying dance at American University, I realized there were more facets to the art form than I could have imagined. After graduating with a major in Broadcast Journalism and Dance, I moved to Los Angeles to strengthen my craft before opening C-Unit in 2006. I continue to attend classes, seminars, and workshops in Los Angeles and New York every year in order to stay up to date with teaching techniques, movement, and choreography. I am most proud of all of the dancers that have grown up with the C-Unit family, and seeing them develop up into outstanding young adults that have gone on to pursue a wide range of careers including dancing professionally!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part I am very grateful for the families that have sent their kids to the studio. They truly believe in the program and are extremely supportive of the faculty and curriculum. There are always people you can’t please and who may not believe in your philosophy but they find their place overtime.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets up apart for one is our education. We are top dance educators in the industry as many of our alumni are dancing professionally in NYC, LA and Atlanta. Many are on tour with artists, dancing in commercials etc. We do our best so that when a dancer is upon graduation, they know all of their options out there when it comes to dance as now there are so many. There is a place for everyone in the industry and we do our best to help them navigate through the next chapter in their new adult life.
What were you like growing up?
I was always very goal oriented from a very young age. I always cared more about the bigger picture in life than the now. My interests were always dance and most things involving an active healthy lifestyle.
