Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Whitney.
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When the world slowed down in 2020, I finally had the space to explore something I’d always been curious about pursuing: artwork. What started as unexpected downtime during the pandemic quickly became a way to quiet the noise and chaos that came with COVID. I had been searching for the right medium, and I felt so drawn to resin. During the alone time, resin art offered me a therapeutic outlet and helped me to process everything happening in the world at that time. Despite the heaviness of the moment, it gave me a chance to reconnect with myself in a fun and artistic way.
I fell in love with the fluidity, functionality, and complexity of resin. I began experimenting with bold colors, different layering techniques, and textures that felt like snapshots of my emotional landscape. Each piece became a reflection of what I was navigating at the time, moments of calm, moments of madness, and everything in between. Over time, I developed a style defined by dynamic compositions and glossy, glass-like finishes that invite you to get lost in the depth and movement of the work.
As I continued creating, I started sharing my pieces with family, friends, and online via social media, and I eventually built up the courage to participate in local vendor markets and shows. The response was really encouraging, and I slowly built a community of people who connected with my pieces. That support pushed me to keep exploring and pushing the boundaries of what this medium can do.
My company’s name is Queen Bee Artisan Co, which grew naturally out of this journey. “Bee” was my childhood nickname, and to me it symbolized creativity, hard work, and community. What started as a playful part of my identity has evolved into a brand that represents resilience, artistry, and the joy of creating something truly unique.
Today, every artwork I create is a testament to where I started and how far I’ve come. Resin art began as a personal escape, but it’s become a passion, a practice, and a way to share beauty and emotion with others. And I’m just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The creative part comes naturally to me, but navigating the logistical and strategic side of being an artist has been a journey of its own. There’s so much that goes into running an art business, the marketing, planning, pricing, inventory, consistency, none of that feels as intuitive as simply sitting down and creating. And of course, not every piece is a hit. Some things resonate, some don’t, and learning to accept that without taking it personally is its own challenge.
Life hasn’t paused for any of this either. I’ve gone through major personal transitions, including the tragic loss of my father and then relocating to another state. Those moments shake you. They make it hard to keep going, hard to stay inspired, and hard to believe in the path you’re on. There are days when I genuinely wonder if pursuing art as a business is the right direction or if there’s another path I’m supposed to take. Those questions come up more often than I’d like to admit, especially when I’m surrounded by so many incredibly talented artists. It’s easy to feel like you’re constantly trying to keep up.
Opportunities in the art world can be unpredictable, and you have to be ready when they show up. That pressure can be overwhelming. But at the same time, it’s part of what makes this journey what it is. The challenges, the doubts, the setbacks, they’re all woven into the process of figuring out who I am as an artist and where I want to go.
I’m still learning and adjusting, still trying to find my stride in the midst of everything. It’s not always easy, but I’m committed to seeing where this path leads. I’m learning to trust my journey with all of the twists and turns; it’s shaping me into the artist I’m meant to become.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work centers around resin art, which is this fascinating blend of creativity and chemistry. Resin itself is a two-part compound, the resin and the hardener, which undergoes a chemical reaction when mixed. It transforms from a liquid to a solid, and in that window of time, I get to shape, guide, and influence what it becomes. That scientific element is a huge part of why I love this medium. Every pour feels like a tiny experiment, and honestly, I feel a bit like a magician when I’m starting a new piece. Watching the pigments swirl, settle, and react is pure alchemy.
What sets my work apart is that I don’t just focus on the visual beauty of resin; I infuse each piece with intention. I incorporate gemstones, crystals, and other earthly elements, choosing them not only for their aesthetic qualities but for the metaphysical energy they carry. For me, it’s not just art; it’s a fusion of creativity, science, and spirituality. The pieces are meant to be beautiful, yes, but also powerful and alluring. I love it when someone picks up a piece and tells me they can feel something in it, even if they can’t quite explain what it is.
Some of my proudest moments are when children see my work and their faces light up. Art isn’t always created with kids in mind, so when they connect with it so instantly and joyfully, it feels like I’m giving them a spark, maybe even planting a seed of creativity or wonder. Those reactions mean everything to me.
I’m also proud of the way my art bridges different worlds: the scientific and the mystical, the playful and the intentional, the emotional and the experimental. That blend is my signature. It’s what makes my process feel alive and what keeps me excited to create every single time.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can work with me in a few different ways, and I genuinely love connecting with anyone who feels drawn to my art. The easiest way to reach me is through social media, my Instagram handle is @queenbeeartisanco, or by email at queenbeebiz1@gmail.com. I’m always open to conversations, ideas, and creative possibilities.
Collaboration is something I’m excited to lean into more. I’d love to start hosting small gatherings where people can create their own functional resin pieces, such as coasters, trays, and décor items, things they can actually take home and weave into their personal spaces. There’s something special about guiding someone through the process and watching them experience that same little spark of magic I feel when resin starts to transform.
I also really enjoy custom orders. There’s a unique kind of excitement in hearing someone’s vision, understanding the energy or intention behind what they want, and then bringing it to life in a way that feels personal and meaningful to them. It’s a collaborative process in its own right.
While being in an art exhibition someday would be amazing, what matters most to me is having my work out in the world, at markets, in homes, in everyday spaces where people can interact with it. I want my pieces to be lived with, touched, gifted, and experienced. That’s the kind of support that means the most to me: people choosing to bring my art into their lives and letting it become part of their story.
Whether it’s through collaborations, workshops, custom pieces, or simply sharing my work with others, there are so many ways to be part of this journey with me.
