Rising Stars: Meet Anna Anglin of Springfield Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Anglin.

Hi Anna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Germany, and my story really began the night I met an American Airman while out dancing. Back then, I was studying psychology and fully expected to build my career in that field. But as you can probably guess, everything changed after I fell in love with a guy I could barely hold a smooth conversation with in English.
Fast forward a few years: we got married, moved to America in 2017, and we now have three amazing kids. Then, in October 2024, something unexpected happened—my husband encouraged me to finally step into photography.
I always knew I had an eye for beautiful images, and people had pointed out my talent for years, but I never truly believed I could turn it into a real profession. It almost felt “too good” to be possible. But that day, I decided to take a leap. I bought an online course on professional photography and from then on, I spent nearly every free minute learning, practicing, building my business, setting up shoots, and eventually charging for my work so I could invest in better camera gear, education, and mentorship.
Today, I’m genuinely proud to say how much I’ve grown—not only in my skills, but in my confidence and creativity. And I’m incredibly grateful that my first year as a photographer has been such a successful one.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course, it hasn’t all been perfectly smooth—and I don’t think it’s supposed to be. Photography requires so much more than simply learning how to shoot in manual mode. It’s a highly interactive job, especially in my field where I work with families and often with young children. Every single session adds to my learning curve. Sometimes I work with clients who communicate differently or have different expectations, and that can be challenging in the moment—but honestly, those “negative” experiences often become my biggest growth moments. In the end, I find myself grateful for them too, because they shape me into a better photographer and a better business owner.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a lifestyle photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, and family photography. I always emphasize the word lifestyle—and often even storytelling—because what I truly love is capturing the in-between moments: the connection, the laughter, the little glances, the way families naturally love each other when they forget the camera is there. Those candid images often hold so much emotional depth that even a stranger can feel something when they look at them.
My goal is to preserve bonds that are “imperfectly perfect”—real life, real love, and real joy. And as a mom who has walked through three pregnancies and newborn phases myself, I know just how incredibly fleeting those seasons are. That’s why I’m so passionate about documenting families in an authentic way, so they can hold onto these moments long after the days have passed.
I’m genuinely proud of the effort and dedication I pour into every single session, because I create the kind of images I wish I had more of from my own time back then with my babies.

What does success mean to you?
For me, success is more than financial freedom. It’s the fulfillment of doing something I genuinely love—work that makes me grow as a person, and even as a mom and wife. I’m excited to go to my sessions and I’m excited to edit afterward, and that creative “break” honestly recharges me so I come home happier and more present with my family.
And I don’t take any of it for granted. Photography is a highly saturated field, so staying busy because clients truly love my style is something I’m deeply grateful for—and proud of.
