Today we’d like to introduce you to Zubair Hussain.
Hi Zubair, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
This entire idea started when I was in grade 12 in my politics class. Seeing older people being very little informed and not voting in the coming election, I took it upon myself to fix that. I started doing a podcast where I talked about politics and current world issues with guests that were politically active. My big thought happened when I had the chance to speak to former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell. From then on, we grew and grew. When the covid pandemic hit, most of our interviews had to be put on pause, and we had to come up with new ways to get our mission out there. That’s when we rebranded the entire organization and added journalism to the organization.
Now, we have writers and members from all over the world. We have over 3000+ followers, with prominent verified accounts following us, such as CBC kids news, Official opposition leader, and MPs and Journalists. Our organization has been profiled by CBC News, CP24, etc. Youth In Politics has also been recognized by the UN world food program, for our efforts when it came to covering the Yemen crisis.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This was not a smooth road at all, we faced many challenges. The biggest one of them is getting the word out there and funding. I took it upon myself and my savings to get this organization started. In terms of getting the word out there, we used many methods, but not everything worked. The only reason we were able to get passed this burden, was with determination and the ideology of never giving up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently, I am in my third year at university studying political science and public policy. I also run my own marketing firm where I specialize in digital marketing and we’ve been able to fund our organization “youth In Politics” via this firm. I am really proud of the fact that I never fell into the words of people who doubted me.
I faced a lot of doubts from people, telling me that my idea was not going to work, etc. But I persisted and I was determined to prove them wrong. Surpassingly, the same people that doubted my organization, now end up working for that organization.
