Hi Zare, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Founder of Zare MedSpa & Wellness located inside White Marsh Mall in Nottingham, Maryland. Before going further, I would like to give God all the glory of how I got to where I am today. I am a registered nurse and a board-certified nurse practitioner. After completing my bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mountain View College School of Nursing in the Philippines, I started my nursing career working in the hospital in 1993. I have been working as a nurse for more than 20 years in many areas from critical care, telemetry, emergency care, operating room to medical/surgical nursing and more than ten years of Nurse Practitioner experience. While working at Johns Hopkins Hospital Emergency Department for 11 years, I earned my Master of Science in Nursing and Adult Nurse Practitioner degree at John Hopkins University School of Nursing.
While in graduate school, I wanted to specialized in cardiology. In 2010, my love of medical skincare and passion for medical esthetics came from the first-hand experience of learning how to keep my skin acne-free. I suffered from adult acne and was under the care of a dermatologist. After unsuccessful treatments, I took matters into my own hands and I began reading books about skincare and attended medical skincare trainings and seminars.
My passion for skincare grew stronger and led me to work at a well-known skincare company where I gained my experience and knowledge in the medical skincare field. I performed Laser Hair Removal, Laser Skin Rejuvenation, Microdermabrasion, Chemical Peels, Laser Cellulite Reduction and Body Shaping as some of the services to their patients. I had extensive training in the treatment of acne, hyperpigmentation and age-related skin concerns. I also completed many professional courses and extensive hands-on trainings in injectables like Kybella, Botox, and Fillers.
I decided to start my skincare business I formerly named Esthetiques Skin Care while still a full-time employee at Johns Hopkins Hospital ER. I began this business in 2003 in my basement without any capital. I started purchasing equipments and supplies one at a time from my monthly paychecks. I started with one client which is myself performing facial treatments. It was very slow. I needed to get the word out so I can help more people feeling more confident and more beautiful.
After being in the basement for five years, I rented a room inside a chiropractor clinic. The one room became two rooms. I was wearing all the hats from being a skincare provider, receptionist, manager, marketer, bookkeeper, janitor, handling the finances to doing laundry in my house and carrying them to the business. I started offering a wide range of skin treatments from Acne treatments and Signature Facial to Microneedling, Microdermabrasion, IV Glutathione and Injectables such as Botox, Kybella and Filler. I also hired my first employee and changed the name of the business to Zare MedSpa and Wellness. Zare was taken from my full name cZAREyna.
After three years in rented rooms, I thought about moving into a bigger space. I have applied at many establishments and I was turned down more than ten times. It was my biggest desire to move into a mall. I prayed hard and asked for God’s leading. With God’s miracles, in 2017 the business moved into a three treatment rooms with waiting lounge and a consultation room inside White Marsh Mall in Nottingham, MD. On the same year, I quit my full-time Nurse Practitioner job with full benefits at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I was nervous and scared but my faith in God keeps me going. It is in this location that hired my first Licensed Esthetician and offered several more amazing and beautiful treatments and learned injectable techniques to help contour beautiful faces.
ZareMedSpa was featured in Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing Magazine and visited by a number of Filipino celebrities and media anchor in the USA.
Having that special connection with God inspired me to serve others. The best fulfilling job for me is to make a positive impact on the lives of others through my work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say it was a roller coaster journey to where I am now. There were sunshine, rain and storms. At first, it was the struggle to make people trust you to take care of their beautiful faces and spread the word out. The struggle of working 2 to 3 jobs while working in the business, wearing all the hats and finances.
I appreciate the struggles because that is how I learned to dance in the rain and storms of life. It helps exercise my faith in God to become stronger and deeper. I have high hopes and I know more beautiful and amazing surprises are coming my way and to Zare MedSpa!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Yes! First and foremost, I give all the credit to God Almighty who I look up to. He has graced and blessed my life that I know are not my hands or any other hands. He gives me beautiful surprises each day. He gave me supporters, cheerleaders, teammates, guests that have played a major role in my success and the success of the business.
To my beloved Nanay and Tatay (mother and father) brothers and sisters. They taught me to be the woman I am today. They are always there for me.
To my amazing husband Fred. I always pray to God to give my husband wisdom and knowledge because He is the man I turn to for decisions and advice. I value his advice, support and help running the business.
To my Zare Team, Haidee & Abbey. I greatly appreciate their dedication, bright ideas & hard work. I could not have done my work without them. They are a blessing in my life.
