Hi Twyla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Crystals were always a part of my life! My great-grandmother had Crystal Quartz chandeliers that refracted the lights of rainbows. I remember going to a crystal cavern as a child and seeing the stalactites; I loved geology in school, bought my first Agate necklace in 08, and studied geology briefly in college. Crystals have just been a returning theme in my life. When I moved to Baltimore in 2015, my Crystal collection surged as the city is a thicket of spiritual findings & people. Also, Baltimore made me speed up & taught me lessons quickly upon arrival (lol). I had a spiritual awakening in 2017 when I had the epiphany to start collecting for others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s going to go as smoothly as possible for a first-time business owner. I am learning a lot along the way. I had no prior knowledge of running a business. I do what I love, making it smooth. Everything falls into place because I’m passionate about what I do in business and my spirituality. I trust that!
As you know, we’re big fans of FreeQueenSee Crystal Shop. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
My name is Twyla, and I’m the creator of FreeQueenSee Crystal Shop. FreeQueenSee ( pronounces Frequency) was curated in December 2018; we started on Instagram, selling our crystals one by one (the posts are still up). In April 2019, we started selling our crystals at Patapsco Market at a small 4×9 table over the years, and as the interest in crystals grew, we upgraded to a kiosk and then to a store in June 2021. I specialize in crystals and minerals and how we can use them for energy attunement. I explain the area in which logic and spirituality meet with crystals, how to use them, and how we use them in our daily lives without even knowing. I’m known for being a people lover, a feeler, and of course, as the crystal lady to some people. Lol. So far, I’m proud to see my business afloat through the pandemic’s uncertainty and grow my store into a safe space where people come. To pick up good energy, if nothing else. I feel in servitude to my community for providing safe spaces, and I’m working on growing and doing more in the city. Outside the store, we offer crystal lessons called Crystal Dates! They are $25 for 45min; you can bring your crystals for the identification. Or ask any questions you may have about stones, or we can go through a lesson I’ve created to help you learn the difference and meanings behind different stones. We also offer select items on our website at fqscrytals.com. Our store is open Sat & Sun from 9 am-5 pm.
Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy the most in this space in time is the people coming into my life that exudes love. Being from Houston and moving here in 2016, I’ve spent a lot of time alone. When I find people I love, I hold them close, and I’m happy that spirit puts amazing and genuine people in my life!
