Today we’d like to introduce you to Titus Brown.
Hi Titus, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a child, I lived in Baltimore and graduated from Arlington Baptist Highschool in Baltimore County. Although I spent my undergrad years in Central Pennsylvania and still live there, I always feel at home in Baltimore. Today, I work in the financial industry and am the father of 3 boys. I enjoy spending much of my time indulging in everything Baltimore’s cultural landscape provides. My passions include travel, dining, sports, art, and car culture. I enjoy creating social media content related to these types of activities. A reasonable drive from Central Pennsylvania, Baltimore, offers various ways to introduce my sons to these activities.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While my life has not been a smooth road by any stretch, I am grateful for my parents and sisters, who were instrumental in me becoming the person I am today. However, some of my struggles along the way were related to living in a household where it was tough financially at times. One of the biggest challenges I faced was losing my older sister to a car accident the same year I was finishing high school.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a wide range of interests and consider myself a renaissance person. I work in the financial industry as a retail banking branch manager. Here I specialize in helping families closely help. Businesses manage their financial matters. At the same time, as a rising executive, I get to build teams who are equally as passionate about the financial success of their clients. I am passionate about food, traveling, and engaging in foreign and local cultures. Especially memorable is the semester of undergrad I spent abroad in Zambia and spending my recent birthday in St Kitts and Nevis. I am proud of these experiences because engaging in foreign cultures allowed me to understand firsthand the value of the interconnection between people of various backgrounds. At the same time, I enjoyed celebrating the differences among people from various regions. Also valuable to me is taking time to enjoy the arts. I enjoy drawing, playing the piano, listening to music, and attending art, theater, and music events. Here I am most proud of having had the opportunity to perform alongside professional musicians in various musical contexts. I am passionate about creating content related to car culture and motorsports enthusiasm. I enjoy taking pictures and shooting video content about cars and the associated car culture and posting it to social media accounts. I also attend anywhere between 8 to 12 events every year. While I have had the pleasure of driving sports cars in various racing settings and have met pro race car drivers, there is something I am very proud of here. I’m incredibly proud that my three sons are passionate about cars and motorsports. My passion for this has been passed down to them.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
It is important to take risks in life. It is important to take the right risks for the right reasons; risks can also have different meanings for different people. I had a humble childhood beginning, living in major cities, such as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, and Baltimore, Maryland. As a young black American, I appreciated the diversity offered by living in these types of cities. My biggest risk was leaving Baltimore and moving to a small town in central Pennsylvania to attend a small liberal arts school. While this setting lacked the diversity I was used to growing up, I learned some valuable lessons, met some amazing people during my years there, and built a great life remaining in this part of the country.
