Today we’d like to introduce you to Susie Cue.
Hi Susie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Susie Cue, owner & designer of Cue Accents, your home for quality handcrafted jewelry, accessories, and home goods. I am a Maryland native with Jamaican lineage. My brand, Cue Accents, was founded at a time when a creative outlet was imperative to personal growth. Prior to this, I was always hustling and bustling from one thing to the next, but rarely making time for myself and the things I actually enjoyed. I had become ill in 2019, and ultimately learned I had an autoimmune condition. It spiraled me into a bit of depression alongside the storms that were already happening in life. Having undergone a mental and physical detox of what was hindering my joy, I was able to do somewhat of a reset. One day during the pandemic I realized I wasn’t tapping into my creative side which is a huge part of who I am. From dancing, singing, and playing the piano to art, photography, and design, creativity has always been my jam! As I returned to embracing my hobbies, I developed new ones, and so came Cue Accents.
I have always had an eye for style and fashion, utilizing it as a form of expression even when I was uncomfortable or even uninterested in being expressive. Unique accents have always been my go-to. As both a solemn and eccentric individual, I would stick to more simple but detailed attire and pair it with statement accessories. This started as a hobby, making jewelry I personally enjoyed, then quickly became a small handcrafted multi-product business. It has been and still is a journey, but one I would have never walked if I didn’t take a leap of faith and let go of the ties that were holding me back.
Through this business, I not only therapeutically get my creative juices flowing, but I’m also afforded the opportunity to empower others through personal style. I thank God every day for this opportunity. I hope to one day be able to give back to the community with programs surrounding empowerment, education, mental health, and the importance of creative expression for personal growth.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With anything worth having, I’ve already made the assumption it wouldn’t come easy. The main driving force behind the brand is passion, but we all know that isn’t the only fuel necessary to power a business. The biggest struggle is staying motivated to conduct “business”. As a creative, I just have a passion for creating and sharing my creations with the public to add just a little more beauty to the world.
At the end of the day, however, it is a business, and as a one-woman show at the moment, I have to ensure I’m being just as business savvy as I am creatively savvy. With this in mind, I’ve had to look at understanding the needs and the investments necessary to further conduct business and gain exposure. It takes mental agility to stay afloat.

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is the achievement of any goal that aligns with the advancement of our well-being. I have different types of successes, but they’re labeled as such because they were abstract concepts behind the alignment of my well-being.
I think sometimes we set goals that were never meant for us to attain because it was a goal that someone may have projected onto us versus us realizing what it is we genuinely want & need for ourselves. In that, we’re bound to fail, and sucumb to disappointment, which can discourage motivation to continue. I believe true success can only be attained when we begin to look at goals as tools for personal growth, providing the checkpoint in our journeys to confirm we’re on the right path to our ultimate purpose in life.
