Meet Stephanie Goldman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Goldman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always enjoyed taking care of myself. I spent hours researching hair regimens, shopping, taking care of my skin, and even doing my nails. I really enjoyed my ME time and it gave me so much self-confidence and self-love! Naturally, I am an introvert, but taking that time for myself always seemed to reenergize me! I always imagined that when I had my first child, I would still take care of myself and look so amazing while doing the family thing since I realized it was valuable to me and felt like a much needed break at times!

Fast forward to last year, and it had been three years since I had my first child. Being a mother is so rewarding and words could never explain the joy it brings me every day! Unfortunately, around this time last year, I looked in the mirror and realized it had been a LONG time since I had even REALLY had a good look at myself! I had gained about 70 pounds, didn’t take care of my skin and hair, and honestly did not like the way I looked and felt. I had skipped self-care almost completely! After all this time, I hadn’t even thought about what I needed or wanted! My confidence and energy was low, I didn’t feel very great, and I realized that I wasn’t as happy as I could be! The only joy I really had was with my family, but something else was missing. I realized that a few changes needed to be made, but I did not remember everything that I used to do! So, slowly but surely, I began to make small changes that gradually grew my self-confidence and self-worth again. I really tried not to overwhelm myself with too many changes at once! After all, I am a mother now and don’t have the time that I used to put into self-care!

One day, I was feeling great! I woke up early, practiced yoga, and did my entire self-care routine before my daughter even woke up! It was the most productive and enjoyable day I had experienced in a while! I realized taking care of myself first that day, even if I had to wake up earlier than usual, left me feeling more accomplished, happier, and more energized throughout the day! From speaking with a lot of other moms, or even busy women, I wasn’t alone! Many of them felt the same way, and I realized just how important it was to engage in self-care! I really didn’t want other women to feel the way I did or sink into depression before they realized the cause of their unhappiness. My first question to anyone who is unhappy is, “How much time do you spend taking care of yourself?” I thought about one aspect of self-care that made me feel happier and chose clothing! I feel confident and attractive in the right outfit and wanted to sell styles and items that were easy for women to feel the same in! Easy, unique styles and products that help women feel unique, confident, and attractive in addition to a growing support group! Hey, it’s not easy putting yourself first after not doing so for a long time! We’ve been there! Therefore our support group shows not only my progress but other womens’ progress, concerns, questions, and advice!

The biggest question I receive is, “What does U-B.A.E. Apparel mean?” As for the name, I always go around saying, “I’m bae!” One day, I decided to Google the meaning of bae and discovered that it means “Before Anyone Else.” I realized that a lot of women, like myself, tended to put others first and suffered in the end. I figured that it was actually time to treat myself like I was B.A.E! Why not put ourselves first sometimes! We deserve to be B.A.E., too! It’s not an option. It’s really necessary for our mental health and self-image! Thus, U-B.A.E. Apparel (U Before Anyone Else) was born!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Definitely not! Some of the struggles I experienced were confidence that I could succeed, money, and overall experience! I really stuck my foot out there, had patience, and gave it to God! I have kept belief throughout this entire process that my company will be great! I am constantly researching and learning so that I can grow my business to help more people! I really didn’t start it with a bunch of money or business knowledge! I took what I had and started making investments into the business bit by bit! Just like I did with myself! This company is definitely a reflection of my work on me!

Did I also mention that I’m an introvert? To be B.A.E. I really felt like I wanted to come out of my comfort zone and U-B.A.E. Apparel has really forced me to do that! I’ve had to get in front of the camera quite a few times more than I was used to! Now, I no longer want to be in the shadows going unnoticed. I want to shine and for others to see it! Therefore, our main mascot is the diamond! I aim for my customers to feel like B.A.E. but also to step a little out of their comfort zone with some of our unique styles! I found that with time, you receive a lot of compliments and that drives you to take care of yourself even more!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Although I have my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Morgan State University, after having my daughter prematurely due to overworking in a pharmacy, I decided that I didn’t want anyone else to determine how much time I could spend with my daughter. Therefore, before COVID even happened, I began working from home teaching English as a Second Language. This would allow me to home school my daughter in case she had any developmental delays from her early birth. I really want people to know that you can make your own path! It was so scary going against the norm and choosing to work from home! Many people did not agree with my decision and verbalized their opinions, but I stuck with it! Now, post-COVID many people are loving it and don’t want to return to an office! I literally can work overnight and still be able to have my days with my daughter. I’m very grateful! My goal is to run U-B.A.E. Apparel full time since I really feel that it’s a business with amazing potential!

What does success mean to you?
The definition of success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. I believe that accomplishing one’s dreams or goals is success so the definition is correct! The issue tends to be accomplishing a big goal but not giving any credit to the steps it took to get there! Even if you have micro goals that you’ve reached, that is success, too! Please don’t count anything that you do toward accomplishing your goals as not successful! If you’re one step closer, I believe that’s success!
