Meet Shantel Teal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantel Teal.

Hi Shantel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always loved being creative and making unique things. I went to fashion design school in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduation, I couldn’t find a job in design. So I worked in various retail jobs. I really wasn’t content in doing that. I became an art teacher, in which I love working with students. I started making accessories (Tealface Artistry) and then my t-shirt brand. (Art Roots Culture)

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, at times, I wanted to give up, but I didn’t. Sometimes it was hard for me to stay motivated or come up with new ideas. Then I would go to different events and only sold one thing. That was really discouraging. I had to put myself around like-minded people. That refueled my tank. It helps to have a support system.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an artist first. I also make jewelry and design my own t-shirts. I’m most known for the earrings I make. The jewelry I’ve made are unique. I want women to feel extra special. My wearable art makes a statement to show off a woman’s individual style. These one-of-a-kind adornments are creative with good energy and love.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I like singing and I do dance breaks to old-school hip hop music while making my jewelry.

I have been a fan of Shantel’s art for years. Her creativity is unbelievable! I still have art she sold at an art show that was held over 20 years ago. Her jewelry is unique and stylish. I can’t wait to see her new creations.
