Meet Shandell Crutchfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shandell Crutchfield.

Hi Shandell, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started singing when I was about 4-5 years old, I loved TLC and LL Cool J! I would play this cassette tape that had both “Ain’t too proud to beg and boomin’ system every morning when my father would drive me to headstart lol. He hated that tape so much, man!

I remember creating melodies around that age, I would just sing and hum everything thing I spoke, I actually still do that to this day. Music just came naturally to me, today, I am really focusing more on writing and creating content for placements. I’m not going to lie, I had those moments when I wanted to give up on music because recently.

I felt like I wasn’t where I saw myself being in my music career, but (God/the universe/my ancestors) just keep dropping blessings in my lap to show me what I need to be doing. I got to where I am today by keeping the faith, staying persistent, and thinking outside the box. Also, I got here cause God created this path for me, and I am most humbled to have this gift.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Doing music has its lows and highs. I have had my share of really bad experiences being a woman in this industry. I have had industry professionals hold on to music I created because I didn’t want to sleep with them, I have had moments in the studio where I have had men try their hand with me, which caused me to stop recording in studios and learning how to record, engineer, mix and master my own music.

Through the bad, I have had plenty of good happen to me as well, those bad moments made me the vicious artist/musician that I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I am a jack of all trades in the music/entertainment world, I am a singer/songwriter/rapper/engineer. I do song placements for artists, television, and film. I am known for my singing/songwriting, I just jumped into rapping, but I have written raps for artists and TV shows for years.

I am so proud of every song I have created in my catalog, I am proud of all the shows I have done, hearing myself on the radio is definitely one of my proudest moments. What sets me apart from other artists is me! There is only one me in this industry, I don’t hold any cut cards, I keep things 100% authentic, and I always put the highest first.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is not about how much money you make, success is about the imprint you leave on this earth. Touching one life with my words and melodies is success to me.
