Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott McRoy.
Hi Scott, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In the mid‑1980s, I began my professional career as a Medical Technologist at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, where I supervised the Immunology Laboratory while simultaneously pursuing a PhD in Pathology. Although the work was intellectually rigorous, I realized I was ready for a complete career change—one that would allow me to work more directly with people rather than laboratory research.
Through industry contacts at Alex. Brown , I became familiar with the financial services profession and ultimately began my investment career at Merrill Lynch in Annapolis. Over the course of 33 years with Merrill Lynch, I developed a deep foundation in wealth management and leadership, including serving as Resident Manager of the Towson, Maryland office from 1992 to 1995.
In 2019, my team and I made the decision to leave Bank of America Merrill Lynch and join Ameriprise Financial, aligning our practice with a firm that supported our values, planning‑based approach, and client‑first philosophy.
Now, with more than 40 years in the financial services industry, I am a Certified Financial Planner™ professional and also hold certifications as a Divorce Financial Analyst and Retirement Specialist. I have the privilege of working with individuals and families to help them gain the confidence to live their fullest lives—by understanding the power and purpose of their wealth and using it intentionally to support what matters most to them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At times, our success and rapid growth have presented their own challenges. As we continue to build new client relationships and expand our practice, we are keenly aware of the difficulty in finding team members who fully embrace our mission and take genuine ownership of the responsibilities entrusted to them. The belief that the client always comes first—and the respect for the confidence our clients place in us for thoughtful, prudent guidance—must remain central to everything we do.
In addition, over my 40 years in the industry, one constant has remained clear: financial markets are not always kind. Market volatility, driven by both internal and external events, is an enduring reality. Navigating uncertainty and guiding clients through difficult periods requires experience, discipline, and steady leadership. These moments test not only investment strategies but also our ability to provide perspective, reassurance, and sound judgment when it is needed most.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Gratias Wealth?

It is critical that we recognize the responsibility we carry in helping clients with one of the most importantI aspects of their lives: the financial well‑being of their families. Perhaps second only to good health, sound financial guidance can provide clarity, confidence, and stability when life presents inevitable challenges. With a clear, optimistic perspective and proper professional guidance, many of these obstacles can be navigated successfully.
As the saying goes, “When you need professional advice, get it from a professional—not your friends.” Entrusting important financial decisions to experienced, objective advisors allows individuals and families to move forward with greater confidence and peace of mind.
Above all, we strive to practice patience, compassion, and understanding—values that guide our relationships and reinforce the trust our clients place in us.
