Hi Sahmra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Sahmra A. Stevenson, Esq., and I am the founder and CEO of S.A. Stevenson Law Offices, Wills On Wheels Inc., and Office Without Walls®. I began creating my brand and line of businesses in 2015 with my law office where I was focused on fighting for happy families and the rights of struggling fathers looking for advocacy in custody matters.
My practice has grown to include additional practice areas including estate planning and business law and formation. I now serve as both an attorney and coach to my clients. My goal with every client is to help them feel empowered and freer as they navigate their legal and/or business issues.
When I started my practice, I found it necessary to put my quality of life and my own personal health first. For me, travel is like my medicine and I needed to be able to successfully run a business while having the freedom to get away from home and see the world. That was when my Office Without Walls® was born.
I used my interest in technology and innovative software to fuel my endeavor and ever since I have been a staunch advocate for the use of technology in the legal industry, pushing other attorneys to create more balanced lifestyles and access to justice opportunities for their clients. In 2016, I launched Wills On Wheels, Inc., the first and only mobile and virtual estate planning business model in Maryland. My mission was to close gaps in access to these types of legal services by not only going to the client but changing the narrative around the concept of what estate planning is and who it is for.
We have grown tremendously and now serve hundreds of clients each year, assisting with life planning, incapacity planning, and even succession and emergency planning for business owners. In 2019, my brand expanded to include Office Without Walls® Virtual Office Solutions, and SASFitPractice. I now offer an online course, seminars, and training on the art of remote business operations, paperless practices, and remote team management, amongst other topics.
I have received a few recognitions, awards, and accolades along the way, including an induction into the Maryland Bar Foundation in 2014. I have also been recognized as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers for both Maryland and the District of Columbia every year since 2016.
In 2021, I was recognized as a top Super Lawyer and appeared on the cover of the Super Lawyers Magazine. The Super Lawyers list recognizes no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state. I currently serve as Co-Chair of the American Bar Association Family Law Litigation Committee.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life is always full of challenges no matter who you are.
I started my career working in all different areas of the legal industry including for non-profits, the government, and for large and mid-sized law firms. I was working around the clock without paying attention to my mind or body. This lead to a lot of fatigue, anxiety, and stress. I really wasn’t loving life. I fell into an unhealthy state and was indulging in things like alcohol too much. Something had to change.
When I started my practice, it was out of the immense desire to love life again. I designed my business structure to allow me to be fully virtual and mobile at the drop of a dime as a means of survival. The only way I could remain practicing law was to put wellness and balance first. Travel is in my medicine.
I’ve always loved the law and I’ve always loved helping people, but I also wanted to travel in order to take care of my mind and my body. I wanted a practice that promoted work-life balance. Well, I decided to create it myself and it wasn’t easy but, it was the best decision I ever made. I’ve been able to try the world and not close my practice. That is truly a dream fulfilled.
Since starting to work remotely I have combated the negative attitudes and presumptions of others about remote work, always going above and beyond to prove myself. This ended up serving me just as much as it has served my clients.
I have developed an instinct and intuition for understanding my client’s needs often before they are presented to me. Now post-pandemic, I feel I have a better understanding and skill-set than the average business owner. It relates to providing competent services and customer service to clients and the other people we serve.
Motivating and inspiring remote teams hasn’t been without its struggles too. I have had to fine-tune my behaviors and boundaries with employees to become a better boss and leader.

For small business owners and start-ups, I consider myself a watchdog, lookout, and reliable resource. We assist businesses with legal, insurance, finance, and tax issues, serving as counsel on a wide range of issues.
We’ve had much success with reaching out and being of service to local business owners through the help of our community partners such as The Baltimore Chamber of Commerce, local and state bar associations, small business advocacy groups, churches, and national soror and fraternities.
