Meet Ron Vento of DC & Surrounding Areas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Vento.

Ron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, I always knew since about middle school. I was gonna be involved in music somehow and then in high school I decided I would like to tour and maybe own a recording studio. After that, I started buying recording equipment here and there until I had enough to start making records and my mom’s garage. There were not a lot of budget friendly places to record way back then so I quickly got a lot of people trying to come over and work with me. After that, I moved to Atlanta to further explore band member options and go to the Atlanta Institute of music. After graduating there, I continued to build the recording studio all while continuing to make recordings for people in my garage down there.
I then moved back to Maryland to try and save money to make the studio commercial. One day I needed a project that I recorded mastered and I took it to a local recording studio and they asked me who recorded it when I answered that I did. They asked me if I would like a job working there. Obviously I accepted and after a few years was ready to start my own. Luckily the owner of that studio was looking to sell it so we made a deal and I bought him out after that the studio move locations and we have been there for the last 30 years or so. We are the longest running studio in Southern Maryland

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes, it’s been fairly smooth. I think if you commit yourself and work extremely hard, things will naturally fall into place. Just doing simple things like answering calls and showing up to sessions on time and doing proper promotion certainly help. I’ve watched about 15 Studios come and go over 30 years because they just don’t do the simple things. Obviously it helps to be a skilled engineer and make great sounding records as well ha ha . It really was never much of a struggle because between working at the recording studio and from my house, I had a long list of clients.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, we are a commercial recording studio so we do it all over the past 30 years. But I also am in a couple METAL bands and we tour the world. From that we generally get a lot of metal as well. Traveling and touring as much as I get to do I meet a lot of people in that world so I get a lot of work shipped to me from overseas. Locally however, we do tons of R&B and hip-hop records. I don’t know that there’s a single thing in most proud of, I’m just proud that the business has been so successful over the years. We do really care about every single person‘s project and we treat them like our own. We try to help the artist, understand their vision, but also guide them sometimes if they need some help. I think that’s why we have so many return customers because they see that we really don’t want anything to leave the studio that doesn’t sound good. I think that’s what most sets us apart a lot of Studios Just get you in and out the back door or try to drain you for as much money as they can get. We are very efficient and very good at what we do.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
To be honest, no, I started this when I was about 15 years old and I’m 51 now. There were no such things as apps are podcast back then. As far as books I read a lot of manuals for equipment hah. We live in a new day and age now we’re all of that is accessible instantly. I was just raised on good work ethics
