Today we’d like to introduce you to Peyton Parker
Hi Peyton, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started with YouTube, back in 2015. YouTube tutorials were very popular, which triggered my interest in makeup. I started practicing makeup on myself up until 2020, then I started to take clients after years of people nudging me to do it. I started out doing makeup in my room, then moved to the hallway of my home where I had a little set up. Mind you, I live in an apartment building so people were walking past my clients and I during their appointments. It was a mess but nonetheless, I got my job done. Fast forward to today, I’m able to say I share a suite with my best friend at Loving My Lashes Boutique and after changing locations my clientele began to increase. In the beginning, I never saw makeup as being lucrative for me. It was simply just a passion that I was able to monetize.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. Being self taught, I feel like developing my skillset was the most challenging. I literally used to cry when my eyebrows would not come out right. My friends would try to encourage me to take on clients sooner, however, my confidence just wasn’t fully there at the time. But once I began to accept clients, building clientele became a main struggle and I quickly realized that simply posting on Instagram is not marketing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a makeup and brow artist. I specialize in creating soft/natural looks on women and tinting & shaping eyebrows to perfection. Women come to me when they are most likely new to makeup and just want their natural features enhanced. I am most proud of maintaining consistency at perfecting my craft when I could’ve gave up a long time ago. I’m also most proud of creating a business model that caters to women and their specific needs. Makeup always gets a bad rep about how it can turn you into a completely different person. This is what made me want to do natural makeup, to prove people wrong and make women feel good and embrace their natural features.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was very introverted and pretty shy. So, if my younger self could see how I network and market myself now, she would think I’m a crazy person. I wasn’t around many entrepreneurs in my childhood, so I never knew makeup & brows was something I could pursue as a business until my late teens. You can say I’ve always had a creative spark to me though. I’ve always took interest in painting and drawing. And like most little girls, I also grew up playing in my mother’s makeup. The highlight of my month as a teenager was going to get my brows done by Tina at the nail salon. Little did I know, she was influencing me in more ways than I could ever imagine.
