Meet Nic Porter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nic Porter.

Nic Porter

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been practicing the arts of photography, music, & writing in the DMV area for almost a decade, guided by the vivid sense of life which floods into my everyday experience. At an early age, I understood the connection between an atmosphere & one’s well-being.

I am heavily influenced by the vast tranquility of nature & my meditation practice to produce pieces, mainly through the medium of photography, that evoke the paramount subjective state of balance: the foundation of liberation or connecting with the blissful, boundless environment within.

Ultimately my purpose is to spread this inner peace & freedom I’ve discovered through meditation in the form of artistic expression. Each production serves as a catalyst to reveal the rich equanimity that exists within every human being, though in most, it lay dormant.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth. I aim to become a master of the disciplines I have chosen to engage with. This desire & destination of excellence in art & spirituality is filled with countless pitfalls that I tripped into but refused to stay in. Becoming great at anything involves the sharpest vision, which “can thread the eye of a needle.”

There have been many times when I was climbing the preverbal mountain of skill acquisition that I could not see or understand what obstructed me. I just knew that what I was producing was not enough for my standards. With each roadblock came a call to know me & the nature of my skills on a deeper level. I’ve learned that every obstacle is overcome by grasping the fundamentals.

So, along the ascent, I’ve developed the humility to turn around towards the ground, the foundation, to understand & readjust my aim to the proper coordinates. This method of problem-solving has never failed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create fine art photographs, high-fidelity music, short stories, & philosophies. Though I have multiple passions, I’ve decided to place photography at the forefront for now. The images I produce, all in serene & striking black & white, illustrate the majestic essence of the subject. I am most proud of the unique style I have developed, which emphasizes mystery & depth.

My depth of perception of life itself, coupled with the expensive investments & unique techniques I have channeled into my craft, sets me apart from others. My work aims to be a catalyst not only for artistic enjoyment but spiritual development, as it has the power to consciously bring stillness into one’s life. This is the primary key to well-being & the distinction between my artistry & another’s.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
My advice is this: know the fundamentals of whatever you choose to pursue inside & out, then think for yourself.

Trust that your vision is sound & do not be distracted by another’s way as it has already been walked. Nature has given all of us the gift of infinite creativity & individuality, which means there are infinite openings, one for each unique line of thought.

If you are disciplined & courageous enough to be loyal to your own idiosyncrasies, it’s only a matter of time until your aspirations & your actualization become one. The world will always appreciate what comes from the core. You & I only have one each. So, let’s be devoted to that.
