Today we’d like to introduce you to Naoumie Ekiko.
Hi Naoumie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Hi my name is Naoumie, I am a black Cameroonian woman. I started my career when I moved from Cameroon to the USA, I came to the USA to meet my family and when I got here, I found modeling which I fell in love with it so pursuing my new found passion was one of my dreams. I started modeling here in Baltimore until I had the courage to make my way to NYC with 300 dollars in y pocket where I have been modeling for more than 10 years as an international model and actress. Which has helped me grace magazines and campaigns like covergirl, essence mag. I love my job so much that I want to assist other women to archive the level success of their dream.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I has it ups and downs for me I have always looked at it as a blessing. But the struggle is real, you go on months without a job, and living in NYC as a model is great but it can take a toll on your mental health, finances, and physically too. I remember eating those little peanut butter crackers with some juice for months even some days I would sit in my room crying because I have not worked for 3 months and I have gained weight. Making things worst that one time my agent has to tell me in a degrading way by grabbing my butt to emphasized it. I have not been booked because of the shape of my nose(P.S I have been asked if I should get a nose job because it’d would be good for my career which I said NO and later that same week. I booked Covergirl campaign.) my hair, skin tone, and even size.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is to work with aspiring models who have the drive and passion to pursue their dreams and in doing so they are becoming great people. I have created this mentorship program for them to get to know the modeling industry, get better information on how to be great in their field of work. I am a Cameroonian model motivator; I believe I am not like the others because I want to touch more on how we can become better humans(models) in their career and personal lives. And as models, we are the image that comes up first.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I will like to share that taking time for self-care and self-love is very much needed for your mental health, physical states, personal wealth and connecting yourself with God could bring a balance in your life. I am also a singer, actress, and content creator. My future goal is to produce an album with my family I do have a small dog call Bravo from the cartoon show Jonny Bravo.
